As has happened years previous, today sees us in a position to get out with the early arrivals and have a bonus chase day, we will be leaving DFW Soon and heading North West to find the dryline, not expecting too much in the way of Tornadic Storms today as the spreads are just too large, but you never know with Caprock Magic , temps look to be around 95-97f with Mid 50's and hopefully Low 60's dewpoints. Am expecting some nice sculptured Supercells with very large hail the main threats, will be pushed east this evening and will hook up with chase car 2 in the morning in readiness for another risk day tomorrow.

Will NOT Be streaming today as that is set-up in the 2nd Car but will be from 9th (Chase Day 1 Proper)

Just speaking to my sister in Dallas, she is watching some thunder clouds at present that look menacing, her daughters  sports day called off! She also said that in anticipation of a major tornado season all the trees in her street are being trimmed. Local news says that due to longer winter the storm season should be busy

13Z RAP. It never fails to amaze me how things change at such short notice and refining targets is a full-time business right up to initiation - as you know only too well Paul.
Best juxtaposition of parameters now far SW OK into TX panhandle and your general area of teh Caprock plateau looks pretty good. I am however a stick in the mud and even in my virtual armchair I'm going to stay in Vernon with a view to crossing the river towards Altus as and when.

Which vehicle have you got today Paul - the black beauty, the white knight or a n other?

Going by the 06Z NAM I am going to virtually base in Childress now and see what unfolds around 20Z hours (UK time).

Good luck to those on the bonus day. Hopefully you will see a good structured supercell.

Just as I was starting to think I should have come this year, you reminded me of a major downside, sodding Subway!

Good luck today :D

For those following the action today, although the streaming isn't on the team have the GPS tracking active so you can keep an eye on where they are in relation to radar / weather warnings over on the stream page

I see that the 5% tornado risk areas that were removed earlier have been put back on the 1630Z update.

And one of them is right in the target zone for the bonus day. And warming up nicely - Childress temp 83ºF with DP of 58ºF currently.

also to edit I am currently seeing some radar activity to the northwest of Vernon. Promising. ( could be anaprop)

Edit again - I see that you are at Vernon!!

First signs of activity further North of the team on the TX OK panhandle border west of Woodward. This is over 2 hours away but I suspect that we could see a line of cells form along a line to the south over the next couple of hours.

Latest from SPC indicate that conditions look to become more favourable for tornadic development in parts of the weather watch area.

DISCUSSION...SCTD SUSTAINED TSTMS/SUPERCELLS EXPECTED TO FORM ALONG AND AHEAD OF DRY LINE/LEE TROUGH EXTENDING SSW FROM SW KS SFC LOW INTO WRN TX. STRENGTH AND DISCRETE NATURE OF STORMS WILL BE AIDED BY RELATIVELY MODEST LOW-LVL CONVERGENCE...PERSISTENT UPR DIFFLUENCE...AND STEEP LOW TO MID-LVL LAPSE RATES...SUGGESTING A RISK FOR BOTH LARGE HAIL AND LOCALLY DMGG WINDS. WHILE TEMPERATURE-DEWPOINT SPREADS ARE SIZABLE IN WW ATTM...POTENTIAL WILL EXIST FOR CORRIDORS WITH AN ENHANCED RISK FOR LOW-LVL ROTATION/TORNADOES GIVEN EXPECTED STORM INTERACTIONS LATER THIS EVE..AND AS BOUNDARY LAYER BEGINS TO COOL/SSWLY LLJ STRENGTHENS. THUS...PARTS OF THE WW MAY REQUIRE POSSIBLE UPGRADE TO TORNADO WW LATER THIS EVE.

Looks like there are some divergent winds at the back end of the Cheyenne storm

Terry and Diana (Chaser tv) are on it and there appears to be a low base
