Temperatures

After a very cool June, temperatures were summer in July and August, with a heat wave in the second half of July. Averaged over the season and France, the temperatures are above normal * 0.4 ° C.

Not necessarily, low solar causes wavy jet stream - therefore just as likely to benefit from the ridge as wallow in the trough. The trick is in guessing where each will be to get a successful forecast.

Yes, it was tongue in cheek, recent lower ice conditions have also been linked to wetter summers for northwest Europe so might've strengthened their conclusion.

Wider Arctic influence and circulation did suggest some comparison with 2006, and a more settled summer proved to be the case.
