When will we hit 30C, 90F and 35C?

Opened this thread for a bit of light hearted postulation and added the latter 2 options incase we really get some heat going (90F is 32C).

 

My prediction is...

 

30C - 16th June

90F - August 12th

35C - N/A

Latest gfs suggests 30-31c 16th june..... If finland is currently hitting 30c odd and arctic sweden/ norway has been in the high 20s this past week cant see why the uk cant hit these highs in the next few weeks....

The arctic gets the sun for 24 hours a day at this time of year allowing it o get warm - it doesn't mean that our weather is going to follow suit - it depends on those pesky jet streams and if they keep us in an Atlantic flow we will not get 30C.

Dont think we'll see 35c this year but the way things are going i wouldnt be suprised to see the 30c mark surpassed before the end of the month.

I suspect you're about right there Steve. If you want to see 35°C I'd book a Caribbean cruise.

35c in Summer on mainland Europe is fairly common place, could go as far as Belgium Coast

I'm sure the SE will get 30c on a few occasions in mid July-August. Nothing over the mid 20s seems likely from what I can see in the models well into June. Low sea surface temps are not going to help.

Concrete does get very hot in the sun, moreso in june.

I think the odds are stacked against it as summers have been in such poor form over recent years. 

The nature of the weather and meteorology I have learnt is unbelievably unpredictable, one slight switch of the patterns and one smallest change in pattern or pressure can make a huge difference. We could see 35c maybe within the next month, it could happen! Its all luck at the end of the day, so many factors to consider too. 

What we would need to achieve such a high value would be a deep fetch from the SE/SSE/S (i.e air sourced from the med/N Africa, or way into central and Eastern Europe) and we would need the continent and this air to be very hot too. If the hot air isn't there, then its pretty much like pouring a kettle of water unboiled (Useless)! The best time to achieve 35c+ would be mid july to the beginning of August (maybe august 10th-15th sort of time) as this is when the continent would be at its hottest. 

Some point within the next decade I reckon we will see it at some point. 

Seriously hope we see 40c as that would be truly epically unbelievable! Maybe soon, heres hoping !

Considering the very cold spring we have just had, cold sea temperatures and positioning of the jet stream I think 30c is going to be a struggle in the UK this summer. I hope I am wrong but I am going to go with a forecast that 30c MAY be reached at some point at the end of July - lets say July 28th around London.

I don't think 32c or 35c will be hit this summer in the UK.

 

More realistic may be -20c being breached in December, which I think is more likely.

As some have already said, cooler than average sea surface temps surrounding the UK will likely act as an inhibitor against any really warm spell this summer.

Given that our hottest flows can tend to come from the SE, with the short sea track I don't think the SST's will necessarily have much of an impact on the 850hpa temps and hence won't really impact the near surface temps reached inland/away from windward coasts.

Of course that depends on us getting the appropriate flow, and cold anomalies around Iberia and the Med may reduce the warmth of warm plumes coming from that direction slightly?

 

perhaps warm easterlies or south-westerlies would be slightly cooler than they otherwise would be.

Well I for one would love to see those temperatures again. After last years poor overall 26.8c max it'd be good to feel heat again.

Lovely as this current spell is its not warm enough to sit out in the evening nor can I leave my door or windows open once the sun moves round (2pm) as air temps are lower than desired house temperature. 

25c is the ideal to please most but much like how people hype -10c or below (which is very tough going too don't forget) I want to see 30c+ again - and preferably over a decent period of time instead of a single day.

I think we'll get 30c this year (perhaps late July I'll go for) but 35c is pushing it so I doubt it although love to be proved wrong!

I'll be honest though - I don't want 35c on my wedding day. Even at 1400 feet altitude that's still hot in a suit, top hat & tails!

Given we havent seen 30C in the 5 years i have lived in my current location, I dont see much chance for this year. 35C is definately not going to occur here nor do I believe even in the heat urban of the SE.

 

However even in this temperature it is still plenty warm enough to sit out after work and if people are still finding that too cool then they really ought to to move to the Med, or get their circulation looked at)!
