Well well well, last night/this morning was a surprise to many I think!

I was woken up at 3am but an almighty downpour, but didn't hear any thunder.

Am chuffed for others getting the spoils :D that really is a beast of a storm cluster along the south coast!

Coming couple of days could be interesting - echo comments made on the other thread, there is a thundery look around here today - while risks are low for my corner of the world, there is obviously potential there.

Will storms further develop as they hit land?

I think we'll have to wait and see mate.

Could see a towering CB in the distance on my way to work. Must be the Cell near Wells.

Well well, no surprise to see thunderstorm reports after looking at the vertical cumulus developing here this morning on the drive in. And it looks like these are forming showers as far east as East Sussex - so possibilities further East of Hampshire and most definitely west. Enjoy all.

Some classic Ac cas storms drifting up over the Channel, looks like a MCS complex on the radar drifing into Dorset and Hants.

Remember, although the SSTs are unusually cold, these storms have formed above the 'boundary layer' - i.e. the surface layer is stable, but the mid-levels upwards are unstable due to warm moist layers at this height being destabilised by cooler drier air above overriding the layers - technically named differential thermal advection.

Looks like Hants, Wilts westwards will continue to see mid-level convection for the rest of the day, with cells drifting in a generally N or NW direction.

Just watched a storm build towards Henfield from the mid level cumulus congestus. As Nick says these are not surfface based but very welcome

One day I wish I wasn't working from home, but back over to the West in Benny Hill!

I am sat at my desk right on the edge of the IofW cell listening to the Strike alert ping being pulled to go down the to Hayling sea front with my cameras but I am so bloody busy I just cant although I am not going to get much work done whilst that cell is there. Grrrr

Seems like storm season is kicking off finally, a month late. Like most of the weather this year! This is the longest I've been in the NSC and getting twitchy!

Here in Poole it is grey and raining lightly at the moment. If it kicks off I'll try and get some pictures as my garden is elevated and looks right out over the harbour westwards to the purbecks.

My lightning detector is going crazy but i'm not hearing anything at the moment, so a lot of it is elevated.

That's quite some activity around the Solent area, more so than what I thought. Seems the front providing thunderstorm activity over France yesterday has pushed that bit further north as suggested by previous FAX charts and is now affecting southern coastal counties.

Will be interesting to see how this develops throughout the day. Early signs of something wanting to show it's hand around South East England too.

Rumbles now being heard in Chichester, probably the eastern edge at the moment.

Those of us, like myself, who are still learning how to read the Skew-T charts correctly, here is a very good guide, courtesy of Matt Hugo;

Hi mjking73 good to see another local. Yeap I can hear distant rumbles and the strike alert gives an occasional ping too.
