A marked snowline today. Currently around 1600m. A bit of a thaw of snow early this afternoon . Temp reached a max of 6c with freezing level just below 2000m. Another area of precipitation moving down through Germany tonight with associated lower 850mb temps should see some more snow again later tonight in the Salzburgerland Mountains.

Another light covering of snow this morning. Temp . Freezing level 1600m. A good cover above this level for the 3rd day on a run. Thats quite impressive for September.

Hi there. Snowfall at elevation of 1500m has occurred several times, so not really unusual . However, to see a good covering lasting 3 days so far on the local peaks down to 1800m is quite rare for this time of year. Looks like a slight warm up over the weekend into early next week before the propects some more early snowfall mid week. It will be interesting if the snow survives at 2000m and above. If so we may see it lasting for much of the coming winter, especially now the sun is lowering.

Lovely early Autumn morning with fog in the valley and snow capped mountains. Cattle still out grazing @Northernlightsat 1500m. Think they will go into shelter sometime  soon .

All our cattle still out on very good red clover based swards  which have continued to grow well since a bit of rain in the last few weeks. Some will be in  in the first week of October when the wormer they had in August reaches its withdrawl period.

Morning just an update regarding the above post. After a slightly milder weekend. Cloud and rain returns this morning with fresh snowfall currently at 1800m and above. Quite a few snow patches survived last weeks snowfall above 2000m level. That in itself is rather good for the end of September and lasted more than I expected. So further accumulations around 2000m today . Hopefully, this will not disappear. Looking at the forecast temps for next week indicate a continuing lowering of temps possible next week as we could tap into some colder air in the circulation over Central and Eastern Europe.

One of the webcams in the region showing a nice mild sunny start to the day. This view is from Alpendorf looking across St Johann and towards the Hochkonig massive at nearly 3000m in the background. Much of the snow on the higher peaks now gone as the forecasted colder conditions made 10 days ago for this week did not come to fruition. Mild and dry it is.

Latest temps in the mountains as the warmth builds, 19.5C  at 1350m absl and 16.3C at 2000m. Crazy temps at this altitude for 17/10.

Very warm and steamy in the mountains today. A lot of cloud with high humidity. Current temp at 2000m near top of local berg is 17c. ! Crazy warmth .

Christmas will be over in less than 2 months. Before then, Advent . The Bergsee Advent display is always special in the village.
