Looking forward to an electrifying day and going to take a wee drive to the Borders I reckon. Looks like nature is going to deliver a great summer treat today. Missus says am like a kid at Xmas today.

Looks like the first proper storm to hit Edinburgh for many years is about to arrive on a NNW trajectory...  Signalling and trains already knackered at Dunbar.

I would say in 5-10 mins as we are getting it now on the other side of Whitelee.

Had a few flashes of lightning and rumbles of thunder in the last hour. I've changed job and really miss the great views of the Pentlands and out west which I had from my old office (about all I miss to be fair). I'm now based in town which has it's advantages but a great view of the surrounding sky isn't one of them.

Image at 1000 from the excellent Net Wx V6 Radar. Shameless plug as it is excellent, best choice of overlays out there and realised better than the others Meto, Blitzortung, Meteogroup etc.

Red Xs are the most recent strikes and you can see the line progressing North into Fife now. The main band dialling in on Glasgow and surrounds.

Very eery foggy day here, such a strong blanket of mist cannot see through to  any of the towers. Pretty surreal when the light keeps changing pitch. Atmosphere feels still, but charged like a slow burning fuse wire has been lit.

Arghh really hope Alloa isn't stuck in the middle of these two storms! Looks like the one heading into Fife is too far east and the one heading into Glasgow etc. could be too far west.

Got a text not long ago from my mum, who is in Ayrshire at the moment, to say they've just had a thunderstorm. For those that get them...enjoy!

Currently in Dyce it's calm and dry but overcast with light grey cloud. Not sure if we'll get any of the more potent rain/thunderstorms here as I'm not sure the temperatures have been high enough to put the energy in. Radar seems to show the band of heavy showers coming up the north sea heading roughly our way though.

Very dark here with rumbles of thunder. The radar suggests some really heavy rain is on the way.

Heavy rain and frequent low booms from the sky now in Glasgow. It had went very dark for a while too.

Seems to have side-swiped us here in EK , half an hours worth of low rumblings some rain and a few flashes of lightning.

Seems to have died a death now and moved up towards the Glasgow area , cant even hear thunder anymore.

Wonder if there is more to come later.

Was spectacular lightning and rain here earlier, we were driving up to Edinburgh in it. Fork lightning and torrential rain, eased off and roads dried within an hour - but now the rain has started on heavy again.

A bit of a damp squib in Glasgow. Some heavy rain, plenty rumbles, a few flickers of lightning, and that was it. Brightening up now.

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall.
