Must admit I was rather impressed with the intensity of the storms over certain areas of the country, especially the south east. They must've started about 2am ish and went on for a good few hours! Can anyone else post their videos and pics in this thread, i'd love to see them!

In North London I experienced some lively weather last night especially around 4.00am with a couple of close lightning strikes the closest of which I managed to record.

    Here is the link!

Here are some pics I got of the lightning on 23rd July. My first pics of lightning ever. While they're not amazing I love them Posted Image I'd gone to bed early on Monday around 9pm to fit some sleep in just incase I would be sitting up storm watching later. I was woken up around 2am by Rain Alarm which I'd set to full volume just incase. Good Ol' Rain Alarm!! There was frequent lightning to my left which was mostly obscured by houses but then we had lighning coming from the left, right and directly infront so I managed to get a couple of shots. There were some lovely loud cracks and deep booms of thunder and torrential rain but no wind or hail. It went on for 2 hours and I sat watching on my own, in my window with a packet of Rich Teas Posted Image bliss!!

Took these with my iphone. I took loads but these are the best of the bunch

and these were a few screenshots of the vid I did. It was through a very rainy window so I'm suprised you could see much at all. I'm ordering a tripod so my camera can look through the gap in the window for next time!! and maybe a new camera shhh

It took me 30 years to get a picture of lightning. Hopefully now I can look back in 5 years time and I'll have improved massively, moved to a house with a better window & better view, have a brilliant kit and I'll have some beautiful shots worthy of framing.

    Better late than never :D

These are the first UK lightning shots I've ever captured :-D

Sadly missed the best part of the storm while I was working out the settings etc and also looking for decent vantage points.

Was an incredible night, have never seen lightning that frequent in this country.

Here we had a weakish storm pass to the east late on the 21st - went to the coast locally at Sidmouth, mostly sheet lightning but 2 CG's. Tried to photograph lightning but got nothing decent.

Then again we were grazed to the east early on the 23rd about 1-2am, quite infrequent lightning again (every minute or two at the most frequent probably) but some good bolts and manage to capture a few:

Mostly distant or in the corner as not much lightning got closer:

Quite pleased with the last one though as this is my first time I've got a decent and properly in focus lightning photo. Part of me thinks the image is maybe a bit dark as they were much brighter in reality, reading up on things I probably had the aperture a bit narrow for the lightnings distance, f/5 may have been better than f/8, Oh well got me in the mood for more and it's practice for next time, whenever that is this far west.

Tilly and Harry great images, well done.

The lightning on Monday whilst I was up in Warwickshire was single pulse lightning so although the camera was shooting I had too much shutter lag. I wish it was pulse lightning then I should have got some good shoot.

3 blew through today but they were all like this, very noisy but not photogenic at all.

Flashes brief and faint but noisy thunder and lots of rain.
