Lets see how the Sheffield shield reacts to a different direction of attack. No problem with rain showers so far. There has been some strikes to SW of us earlier and the sky has gone dark in that direction.

Flaming Heck! Mother of all downpours just gone through and we weren't even in the core of it. A few distant-ish rumbles of thunder and my back yard has a sizeable pool of water near the back door. The visibility was nigh on 0 when it went through due to rain intensity.

Still rumbling away to the N. That cell means business!

Hmm so close to my area now and I can see large anvil clouds and towers all around me, now am I actually going to see something other than rain this time?

Pfft.

The met Office should stop putting thunderstorm symbols on their forecast, because it means nothing will happen. They do it on purpose to spite me! Posted Image

Totally agree, so far today has seen much more heavy bursts of rain, where as yesterday the BBC and MO had Saturdays forecast as extreme heavy rain with flash flooding, which never happened.

I'm wondering.

Yesterday was forecast to be the "Great Getaway" as families start their summer holidays... I wonder if the weather warnings were deliberately exaggerated to put people in the SE off travelling on our creaking road and rail network. Nothing would surprise me in this country nowadays.

A continuous stream of heavy and torrential showers passing through here now, as soon as 1 ends another starts. No T and L yet but I get the feeling that it's only a matter of time!

The met office must be joking with there latest text forecast for this evening going for just a few showers! I'm getting shower after shower here. They do talk about what sounds like a trough to come up overnight and give heavy and maybe thundery showers though which is interesting. Just heard some close sferics here, no thunder though.

Some parts of the NW could get some very high precip totals from what looks like a rain 'train' beginning to occur. a near-consistent flow of cells cropping up thanks to southern parts of Snowdonia influencing convection orographically.

Oh and for the weather-buffs out there, today is also the date of the 2005 Birmingham tornado.

Maybe they did, I drove my daughter to Gatwick yesterday and it was like a sunday, bliss!
