Just 6.8mm as most of the rain tracked west of here, see TM and Pit reports, a mix of Cu Sc and sunshine this morning along with a breeze, a low of 15.1C now on 19.9C with Td about the same as yesterday. It does feel a touch fresher though having that breeze.

Okay got the full rain in. The Davis overdid it a bit but we got 27mm in the official gauge.. Didn't see any lightning and only heard one rumble of thunder on the way down to the pub at 19:45. Bit baffled as to why this mornings forecast reckoned we'll be hitting 25C to 26C today. Must have been a slip of the tongue.

A more typical summer's day than we've had for a while - dry and breezy with sunny periods and temperatures only just above normal, and a single short shower a few minutes ago.  Maximum 23.2, minimum 14.1.  Wind moderate SW.

Firstly a correction to my rainfall total reported as 73.1 mm this morning.

When I read the gauge the bottle had overflowed into the inner can of the gauge and when I took this out there was also water in the body of the gauge and the can appeared to be dripping into it, I therefore dug out the gauge and measured the water in the body, assuming the inner can was leaking.

During the day I began to have niggling doubts about the difference in catch between this gauge and my other gauges so I checked the inner can for leaks and found it had none; the water in the body of the gauge must have got there at some other time, probably during the blizzard at the end of March, and as I only occasionally take out the inner can to clean it I hadn't noticed it.

Anyway the true rainfall total for yesterday is 64.9 mm which, despite the reduction, is still the largest daily fall on record for July and the 4th largest for any month on this record.

This morning was dry and breezy with sunny intervals, this afternoon there were one or two brief light showers at first and then one heavy one during mid-afternoon followed by more sunny intervals.

At 1800 g.m.t;

Temp; 18.7c

Max' today; 19.9c

Min' last night; 13.1c

Grass min; 13.5c

Rainfall from 0800-1800 g.m.t; 3.8 mm

Sunshine today; 3.59 hrs

Mean wind speed; 12 mph SW

Highest gust today; 36 mph SW at 0135 g.m.t

5 oktas Cu congestus, Cb and Ci

Vis; over 80 km.
