Ah this storm seems to have fizzled now. Interested to see if more does develop! Rain has just arrived as I type!

Well that was pointless being woke up for that

Nevermind being woken up, I am thinking of driving 50 or so miles for it following all the reports Posted Image

I suppose the storms are very localised but in a car I can just get to it and follow the lightning

Edit: Having said that it looks to be dying as it moves north.

If anything, GFS and NAE show things intensifying upon pushing N/NE across E Wales/Midlands/N England. We'll see.

I've checked the GFS windspeed/direction for 03.00, alongside the 850's and comparing that to the doppler radar (

http://www.weather2day.com/radar/uk/23 ) track annnnd the lightning data @ Blitzortung

http://images.blitzortung.org/Images/image_b_uk.png?t=23014122 that certainly looks like the path it may follow.

I'm hoping it will continue to explode into life, wibble & wobble about enough to allow me to see some distant flashes if I watch the West..I'd like more but I think that my hope-casting is more than will happen *sniff sniff*

They look to have lost most of their electrical activity though. I am hoping they reintensify as per nae forecast.

Edit.. It is raining quite hard (yawn) but no thunder here...

All MOSTLY clear of lightning activity everywhere UK and Ireland.A few isolated thunder/ lightning around. It is possible to brew up again especially the southwest, later.

Thrust of main area of rain just South of Bridgnorth now. Surely if electrified still it would be giving the desired effect? Even if a distant one..

Supacell, if you're up still - stay put, chances are it'll re intensify your neck of the woods as a narrowing band of very heavy rain. Greater chance of some rumbles and tumbles, or perhaps on its back edge Posted Image

Night all. Intense drizzle never far away lol..

Thanks triple_x1. I had already made the decision to go to bed as could see the whole thing was dying. As it happened it looks as if it did pep up about an hour or two ago whilst I was asleep, but about 30-40 miles to my east. I would say that is it now, the remaining rain looks fairly light and according to BBC forecasts the rain will be fizzling through the day.

It was fascinating watching the Dorset storms grow on the satellite last night, around 15 mins the cell grew quick from no lightning detected to a lot all in that time, I think cell growth is around 20-30 mins for a storm to mature on average.

Didn't post last time at the time as was outside watching it then went tack to bed but it's years since i've seen an electric storm like that. Flashes every 5-10 seconds for a good 30 minutes. Mostly C-C. Lighting up the sky in different hues.

I'm wondering if a squall line didn't develop as it crossed Dorset, I wouldn't be surprised to see there was some wind damage in places as for a short time the wind was gusting very hard. It was positively sultry as well, it felt warmer at gone Midnight than at any time during the recent summer!

So pleased for any of you who got a storm early hours. I don't even know if I had a storm !if I did I must of slept through it and I would never sleep through a storm. I'm going to look back at the radars and see if I did get one. I'll not be happy if I did miss one Lol,

Going to start a new thread soon, but well done to whoever did get a storm.

Dubai Floods: Another Warning Sign for Desert Regions?

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall. It doesn't rain very often here like other desert areas, but like the deadly floods in Libya last year showed, these rain events are likely becoming more extreme due to global warming.
