Indeed, the netweather long ranger has updated and is backing precisely our thoughts.

Snow on bonfire night? Not out of the question in my opinion Posted Image

Thank you Jan,

I shall publish my findings on completion, you could be of some assistance actually, as you live in the study area.

I understand that a few years ago your work involved taking measurements of the human kind. What are you like with a ruler?

Spent the afternoon picking our own at Garsons Farm - squashes and apples the food of choice this afternoon - and then picked our own blackberries for free on Esher Common at Black Pond. Our efforts ended in delicious apple and blackberry crumble; squash is reserved for pasta bake tomorrow.

We seemed to start losing the light in the woods by 5.30 under grey skies although it was notably humid; the trees were predominantly green with some orange leaves starting to line the edges of paths. I'm kind of wishing if we're stuck with grey all the time, the temperature could at least do a bit of autumn to match, as I feel a desire to wrap up a bit, don the boots and scarves etc. No doubt I'll rue the sentiment soon!

Anyway, some autumn-ish pics:

Captain, that would be fab. Snow on bonfire night. I don't recall ever seeing it

We can hope, though it would mean I would be a week out on my first snow prediction Posted Image

Early days as of yet. Hopefully the next couple of weeks will continue in  similar pattern. Need to look to the models which release outputs which span the 4 week period to pick up early signs for November and whether things are poised to turn much colder.

Evening. :)

Seeing the posts above about the possibilities of windy weather in mid October, I have to say I hope the Atlantic doesn't fire up too early. I read an article yesterday saying we might be heading for a spectacular Autumn colour show, in our woodlands, with the best time (obviously influenced by any frosts etc.) likely to be from the third week in October until the first week in November. A gale would put paid to a lot of that.

Dubai Floods: Another Warning Sign for Desert Regions?

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall. It doesn't rain very often here like other desert areas, but like the deadly floods in Libya last year showed, these rain events are likely becoming more extreme due to global warming.
