What an amazing bit of luck was watching that precipitation over Northumberland earlier didn't expect it to make it this far, had a flurry of snow before in Central Newcastle and now in heavy snow falling in jarrow!

Had a look at the satellite and you can see where the snow is currently from the cloud it will be continuing down the coast so maybe some wintery stuff for the east coast inland should remain sunny and cold

With temps around 5c for the region tomorrow and 5 to 8c for the rest of the week puts this cold spell way over hyped by the certain media outlets

Yes its going to be chilly but nothing too bad

Current temp 1.7 and falling what i have noticed is the dp is dropping like a stone in the past 2 hours currently -6,

I wonder if we see anything wintry on the leading edge of this front moving in from the northwest

Its producing sleet and snow in western Scotland currently though its turning to rain quite quickly

According to the met office website no rain is due till around 05:00 for Darlo I wonder if that front will fizzle out as it pushes south?

Ive just watched the bbc weather and the front has cleared away by then with warnings of ice for rush hour for north east england and south and east scotland Due to the cold air behind the front

The band of precipitation moving down from Scotland is rapidly turning to sleet and rain now even over Scotland, can't see much for this region tonight other than rain

North east looks particuly prone for wintry showers tonight, thanks jo farrow lets hope so, with north sea temps above average could we see hefty showers, radar watching me thinks,

On another note the rain that was falling at 6.30am wow i HAVE never heard anything like it, heavy doesnt do it justice

North sea showers coming onshore this afternoon and then intensifying into the evening.

3pm..  6pm..

Uppers and dewpoints are marginal at the very best, but a decent chance of

some hail and thunder if those showers really get going.

Any snow mainly a high ground event but maybe to lower levels in any really

potent showers.

Snow warning issued for Northumberland and Durham

Issued at: 1038 on Wed 20 Nov 2013

Valid from: 1700 on Wed 20 Nov 2013

Valid to: 2359 on Wed 20 Nov 2013

An area of more organised showers will move south across northern England during Wednesday evening. The showers will fall as sleet, snow and hail on high ground, before turning to rain within a few hours. Temporary accumulations of 2-5 cm of snow are possible within 2-3 hours above 300-400 metres. The public should be aware of the possibility of difficult driving conditions and some minor travel disruption on higher Pennine routes.

Chief Forecaster's assessment

An occlusion will bring a band of more organised showers south across many parts of northern England during Wednesday evening. The air will be cold enough for snow to fall over high ground, although less cold air will quickly follow from the northeast, such that snow will turn to rain with any lying snow melting.
