Clear periods and one or two light showers during yesterday evening but after midnight it became mostly cloudy with frequent light-moderate showers and brief clear intervals between them.

A marked contrast between the north and south of the Peak District today. From about Buxton northward a continuous stream of showers, some of them heavy, whereas down here at the southern end it's been a day of sunny intervals and occasional mainly light showers.

Buxton recorded just under 0.5 hrs of sunshine today ( 4.1 hrs here) and around 13mm of rainfall since 0900 ( 1mm here ).

The showers streaming off the Irish Sea seems very similar to the set-up in early January 2010 that gave areas north of Buxton a phenomenal amount of snow - the most I'd seen in the UK in my life by a wide margin until it was of course bettered by December 2010 and March 2013 (in these cases the south and east of the Peak District got the full pelt of it).
