fresh yeast or Dried? I've always had a problem with dried. fresh is messier but more fun and gets a better rise.

If you have a split oven, leave them to rise in the top oven while the bottom oven is set to about 15th then whack the temperature up just before they go in.

To make this weather related, looks like we'll need to bake our own if some of those charts verify

I used to make my own, tried a bread machine and went back to making it from scratch

Fresh yeast seems to be given complimentary to customers at the bakers section of large Tesco supermarkets too; I guess others are the same?

I like the cleanliness of it all. If I baked my own, I'd make an inevitable mess. Posted Image

How to make this weather related? I might have to bake a loaf for the birds, if some of the FI charts come to fruition. Posted Image

Dried, i might try getting some fresh next time i go out.

and yes, i did have it in the back of my mind that bread making would be a good skill for if it does snow for a few days and the shop bread runs out.

good point about the birds, they will start needing help soon.

charts are starting to look much colder. seems to be the Aleutian High pushing the vortex our way.

almost all weather related

I've promised my granddaughter that I'll let her help me make some over the next couple of weekends, that'll be fun.she won't want to go out if it's cold :-)

MKSA many thanks for the snow depth thread which will make life easier when the snow comes rather than clog up this thread.  There will be two links to where the latest results can be found for both north and south which will be updated once things get going on the snow event front.

If it doesn't snow we may have to convert the competition to rain and that has been in short supply recently.

Gritters are out in MK - just saying ;-)

Yep here too, may be for frost. We had some rain earlier the ground is still wet.

Yes, we had annoying drizzle here at teatime. Not sure whether it's cleared up since? Might have a quick look.
