An interesting example of the debate using the modern interpretation as more or less defined by Galton. It would seem that as many think, environmental factors can overcome nature even in quite extreme cases. The scientist is a distant cousin of Lizzie Borden

 

To my mind there remains the question, what if something disastrous had happened during his adult life such as a complete breakdown of his marriage? Would nature then come to the fore?
