Some shower activity in west country today with reports of snow on high ground.

I might see one yet if these showers have enough strength to make it to the mendips

High ground above 200 to 300m in mid Wales had snow this morning, especially around Llandrindod Wells and the Brecon Beacons with a decent covering.

Here there was a touch of sleet in the rain with snow cover visible on nearby hills. So yes a technical White Christmas here!

Christmas day 2004.....now that was a goodun here! Heavy snow showers driven in on a NW'ly wind. Awesome.

Christmas day 2010.....snow on the ground and bitterly cold but no snow fell during the day itself.

We had a "technical" white Christmas with some snow flakes in the midst of some heavy rain and severe wind last night, but certainly not a postcard Christmas. The hills around the city are white though.

Woke up to about 0.5cm at 300m on the Derbyshire/Staffordshire from moderate snow showers during the morning, but it had mostly melted by late afternoon.

The met office have confirmed Christmas 2013 was not a white Christmas

Using technology such as radar, webcams and ground based sensors combined with the expert opinion of experienced forecasters, the Met Office is able to declare that no snow was reported by our Met Office Observers on Christmas Day 2013.

Although a few of our automated weather stations recorded sleet or snow over some hills, Christmas this year was green for most of Britain rather than white.
