WEATHER ALERT

THIS IS AN ADVANCED ALERT FOR SEVERE WEATHER

Category: Level 3 Warning

Weather type: Heavy Rain and high winds

Affecting: The Channel Islands, Southeast England, East Anglia, Central Southern England, Southwest England, Wales, The Midlands, Northern England

Date Valid For: 09:00 Wednesday 07th July - 09:00 Friday 09th July 2004

Time Of Issue: 18:00 Monday 05th July 2004

Discussion: A deepening area of low pressure is now approaching the UK from the south, by Wednesday morning it will be affecting the Channel Islands and the far southwest of England. It will steadily move northward to affect all parts of Southern England and Southern Wales by the end of the afternoon. It will then continue its track northward into the Midlands and East Anglia. Overnight it will move further north,, by this point it is possible that the system may have lost some intensity, but this is by no means certain.

Persistant rainfall will affect northern areas on Thursday while heavy showers and storms will develop in the South.

There could be some flooding in prone areas with high rainfall totals expected over this time period. Up to 70mm of rain may fall in places, with local falls exceeding this value.

Windspeeds of upto 60mph are possible for all areas, which could again lead to hazardous conditions.

Details of the track and intensity of this depression are still uncertain, so please stay tuned for updates

Confidence Level: 70%

Note: This alert should be considered a guide and we strongly recommend you stay tuned to the Met-Office for further warnings and updates.

Expect further updates as and when needed.
