Was hoping to reach 200mm, currently 195mm, but rain band has gone through. I see rain off western Ireland, so could still make the magic 200mm mark.

Contrary to my thoughts of 4 or 5 days ago it will be a very close thing as to whether the January rainfall record is broken here.

We're currently on 205.8 mm up to 1800 today. 0.7 mm required to exceed 1986 in second place and 1.6 mm needed to achieve first place, currently occupied by 1995.

Nope that  as earlier in the month. The rain over the west didn't reach us over night.

I got 24mm out of yesterday's rain, that brought my January total to 284mm, bear in mind, I've also had several dry days as well, so that makes it more impressive! Not bad for being 10 meters ask. :)

798mm just for Dec and Jan is incredible. The average rainfall at Delhi in Jul, Aug and Sep (the monsoon) is about 600-650mm.

Even Shawbury has topped the 100, which is very unusual in a westerly winter month. 30 rain days out of 31 here.

Given the look of the charts for the next week or two, February must have a chance of breaking rain records too. The wettest in the past 10 years hereabouts is a lowly 158mm in 2007.

The January total here was 209.8 mm ( 193% of the 1981-2010 average ) and the wettest January on record by a margin of 2.5 mm over 1995. It also makes January 2014 the 8th wettest month of any over the last 37 years.

It would take a very wet February to bring us anywhere near the wettest winter on record as December here was drier than average.

Currently the wettest winter on record is 1989/90 with 470.7 mm, closely followed by 1993/94 with 467.8 mm and 1994/95 with 467.9 mm. February would therefore have to produce 166.4 mm of rain to break the winter record; only two Februaries in the last 37 years have achieved this; 1990 with 169.4 mm and 2002 with 206.0 mm.

Shame Capel Curig is not on there this month

By using the Capel Curig code, the data for January is

below

http://www.ogimet.com/cgi-bin/gsynres?lang=en&ind=03305&ano=2014&mes=2&day=2&hora=24&min=0&ndays=50

rainfall = 391.4mm

[because of midnight day end = rainfall is a day behind so 1st Feb rainfall is actually 31st Jan and so on. ]
