The way I see it is that we are likely to have a rise of pressure to the north, which will immediately make snowfall more likely, especially if it locates in a good place. I don't think we'll see any (meaningful) snow in the next week, although I can't, in my mind, completely write it off. Posted Image

Look at this chart from the Met Office model, for six days away. I have to use another site for the chart, as Netweather's Met Office charts only seem to go out to five...

On the face of it, it doesn't look too clever, with low pressure close to our north, likely meaning appreciable rainfall again, but look further north and east, to see the zone of high pressure. Posted Image

(Actually I'm not too fussed whether it snows or not - I'd probably like a sub zero 10 days as an ideal, then springlike. Posted Image . Having no central heating on today has been quite a novelty for January. Posted Image )

another point as well

once we pull into a different airflow

east or north east

even if we get the colder air there is no guarantee of snowfall

Hi Storme, just up the road from you, and it's drizzly here, nothing more than that at this stage.

Another thing might be that the Balkans and eastern Europe cop loads and we just have benign and chilly. That's happened a bit since the turn of the Millennium.

You could have let my forecast look right for more than 1 minute, Reef!

Sorry about that old chap, wasn't reading back appropriately; had hoped to reassure you it's dried out now... but still looks pretty wet!

it definitely seems to have moved to the east which is a good thing for the Thames. Went to the river today in Kingston and it is very high, parts of the tow path i was on were submerged.

Yes, after today's deluge I was pretty sure more of the path would be covered than yesterday. I hope the swans, seagulls and those geese things are happy:)

hi steve

my thoughts are once we can get the colder air in

then we need the shorter term charts to predict snow

the good thing on that airflow is it will likely be dry

but snowfall will be a risk but not like we have had to endure for god knows how long rain wise

i may be wrong and we might get dumped on but too far for specifics at present

although the odd ramp chart will still be shown for good measurePosted Image

Hi John,

Not too sure what it means? Northern lights possibilities in a few days?

As the saying goes , America sneezes & we catch a cold ! Models looking much better tonight woop woop . Come April we will all be moaning that it's to cold lol & long for summer . I reckon winter is really going to play catch up quite soon , here's hoping anyway . Just for a change it's raining yet again , but no wind which seems really strange ? Kind of got used to my fence panels being scattered all over my garden on a daily basis ! Given up now trying to tidy it all back up ! Looks like this rain & wind is dying a slow death now , which will be great for everyone needing to clear up what that Atlantic left behind ! Hope everyone is well if not just a little bit excited he he

Over on the Intellectual's Thread (is cold rain sleet or is sleet warm snow, etc), Fergieweather has  threatened to spill the beans on some big news using his inside track at the Met O. Hold Breath.....

Time to relocate for a bit then... Posted Image
