Looking at the NW radar there are a lot of greens on there indicating sleet! I wonder if there'll be any pinks later?

Will we still be talking about the great rains of this year in sixty years time, as we still today talk about the snows of 1963 or the summer of 1976?

I'm sure those in the SW and those already flooded will, I will just remember it as another crap Winter.

3.4 here in Brighton, I would be happy to see sleet! That sums it up really!

use those precip type radars with caution. They use model data to guesstimate where snow line will be. So they often lie.  As some are doing now

Just been out to chuck a bag of recycling and it is still raining here, feeling a lot colder still on earlier too, and cannot put the frost cover on the car as it is too wet (and I want to adopt my house coat and TV position now not later)

Just to cement this miserable day, its now cold enough to want the heating on, just discovered that the wind has blown the gas light out.And Southernman who knows how to fix it is in Selsey till Sunday. Can't have a not bath either.

I've never known a winter for the wind affecting the gas light this has got to be about half a dozen times so far.

I get the same thing happen here sometimes and my very unscientific method is to switch the boiler off at the mains, pause, and then switch it on again. I turn the hot tap on immediately and it re-ignites (every time!)  This assumes that you have a combi heater and hot water type boiler.

Otherwise I'd just give it a good kick insteadPosted Image It might not re-set the boiler, but it will probably make you feel a bit betterPosted Image

With the talk of earthquakes, seems Brighton felt a tremor today too. I was in Coldean (suburb of Brighton) at a meeting, didn't feel a thing.

Down to 3degrees here, cold, dank and dismal.

Driving home along the M4 and the A3 with the hard shoulder and then the inside lane respectively having creeping water half way across as the 'puddles' expanded, I couldn't help thinking of what might have been. Car temp said 3 degrees, oh for those 2 degrees lower, with dew points and wet bulbs perfectly placed, ahhh, it could have been a whole day of snow rather than this constant miserable outpouring from the sky. The campus car park is now just a series of streams, and the stream through campus not far off a raging torrent.

Anyway, enough grumpiness, think longer days, sunshine, and keep wishing for that February surprise snowfall:)

hi suburban

different set up this time

if you follow ukmo it has threatened to push the block back towards us

the block is strong and in the end would have to force an undercut

i agree a long way off but to call winters over at present in my eyes is wrong

anyway the block will do what we all want first is stop the train coming in

fi on gfs is not worth entertaining in my eyes

anyway at least its s start

not sure why i am getting all the lines

sorry Posted Image

hi suburban

Hi John, well at least its clear and easy to read Posted Image

yes totally agree. i dont do throwing towels! i'll be waving my snow flag until March 31st Posted Image

Plenty time to go yet. Agree about GFS too. too unreliable considering Strat trop coupling. tho having said that, if there is some downwelling, then NWP in general will struggle big time. which could equate to lots of teasing nice charts but nothing verifies, or some actual cold/snow in the UK!

Good evening folks Posted Image .

What a lousy day and it's still raining here. The forecaster on bbc1 said that Coulsdon in Surrey broke though the 200mm barrier earlier today. The January average in that area is 54mm Posted Image
