As the other thread was out of date I thought I'd start another which will take us through the next few months, although I'm hoping the weather will be a lot calmer and a far cry away from the headline making storms which have been endured over winter! We can still have some lively weather throughout March & April during the transition from winter into something more quieter & spring/summer like.

Today has been a very gusty day with strong south to south easterly winds gusting 40-50mph here, more like 60-70mph in the far NW of Scotland and the Western Isles, especially Stornoway which has recorded severe gale force 9 with a gust of 68mph recently. http://www.xcweather.co.uk/

Nothing showing atm but that doesn't mean there won't be any in the next couple of months. anyway a high pressure thread would look slightly out of place in the severe weather part of the forum.... Looking forward to some high pressure though! Posted Image

Getting rather rough here in Barnsley. Just had a 54.1 mph gust. Certainly more than forecast.

Stormy period still on for Wednesday into Thursday with some very  strong winds shown once again. Seems to be slipping under the radar this one and one worth watching.

Wow, the Atlantic is being so stubborn this year - it just really doesn't want to let go. I really hope that deep low-pressure systems aren't the theme of Spring too, it really is getting old and beyond a joke.

We've been under high pressure, little to no rainfall in quite a significant amount of time. Yes we had some exceptional rainfall but things are returning back to normal, although groundwater levels remain high. This thread will remain dead, for some time In my opinion. Edited by Daniel*

Could we say this possible category 1 hurricane if it confirms these winds.  Pretty stupid that high storms cant have category.

Looking fairly windy overnight into tomorrow with gales likely for many northern & western areas with an active cold front moving through, perhaps severe for a time over exposed coasts and hills around the Irish Sea, SW Scotland, IOM, NW England & N Wales. Gusts of 55-65mph.

Its very windy here now. Wouldn't be surprised if 70mph+ is recorded in the central belt or the west coast of Scotland tonight because its at least 45-50mph now. :)
