I would like a warm and sunny summer, although another low sea ice year and the warm phase of the AMO won't bode well for that!

Wasn't those factors basically as per last year although sea ice was slightly more although still much lower than pre 2007?Not to be fully trusted but CFS model has been firm on warmer and drier than an average conditions this summer and has for a long time now :) Edited by Blizzards

Lets all be very glad the above 3 posters have zero control of our weather!!

Too right! If I had the money, I would pay for all of them to go to Reykjavik or Longyearbyen. Posted Image

Of course other factors play part as well (e.g. ENSO). Although statistically those factors are likely to lead to wetter than normal summers. Although recent sea ice change and the influence on European precipitation patterns is an emerging field of research :)

Warm days and lots of night time thunder storms. Temps' in the mid 60s to low 70s (I think) and rain and T&L at night. Bliss. :)

Current temperature record: 38.5°C (101.3°F) in Faversham on 10 August 2003

Will the summer of 2014 be the first to hit 40°C? Hopefully!

I went for heat wave, but as long as there are frequent long spells of sunny warm/warm weather, I'd be very happy,

Being perfect would be two week sunny spells in each summer month, with temps in mid to upper 20s nationwide, during the remainder of the time, some thunderstorms to keep others happy, I think most people would be fed up of 12 weeks of unbroken sunshine.

Hoping for mainly cool/cold and mostly dry, cannot stand heat, so an ideal setup would be a high to our west or NW, same as craig really, and simshady, and laserguy and mr pessimistic

Pretty cloudy and bland set up in the summer but each to their own I guess.

A combination of the following three patterns:

1.  Anticyclonic, dry, sunny, warm

2.  Hot and thundery plume type setups

3.  Cyclonic setups characterised by minimal frontal activity, sunny spells and thundery downpours

Overall, essentially a continental-style summer, warmer, sunnier but also wetter (due to the intensity of the rainfall, rather than the frequency) than we're typically used to and with somewhat more thundery activity than usual.

Heatwaves, but with some thundery activity for me :)

Usually hot summers come in twos (1975/76), (1983/84), (1989/90) or in bunches like (1994-1997) and (2003-2006). Perhaps 2013/14 will be a pairing? Hope so.

Snow would be good but I'll go with cool or cold summer. I hate heat especially when accompanied by high humidity.

I want the summers from the 90's back! Long hot summers, broken up by some really great overnight MCS' to replenish the land and give us some great lightshows.

Don't understand the love for cool and wet, we get that pretty much all year anyway. Ideally for me it would be sunny and warm (around 20-27oC) with a few short spells of hotter weather followed by thunderstorms.

21-24C with unbroken sunshine by day, with an occasional nighttime thunderstorm to keep the drought away :)
