Glastonbury Wed 25 to Sun 29 June 2014

Bout 5/10 on the mudbathometer I reckon. Anything other than wellies a no go on all parts of the site I have seen this eve. Probably non-recoverable even to the point of Intermediate footwear for tomorrow.

He'll of a weekend nevertheless.

Cheers for the earlier update J10, really useful.

The forecast for Glastonbury remains mostly dry, the Met Office forecast is for conditions to improve after a rather cloudy start,,which they probably will do, but perhaps a bit later than they are suggesting, but later this afternoon and this evening, should seen more in the way of sunshine in any case.

Thanks for your posts again J10. Weather this year was quite different to anything for quite some years: usually the site has been waterlogged on arrival, progressively drying up over the weekend, (apart from the hot, dry 2010 year) but this year was bone-dry on arrival but had the heaviest rain during the festival since 2007.

Despite a huge amount of rain in some of the thunderstorms, the dry subsoil absorbed it quite well overnight and prevented the totally unwalkable mud that resulted in e.g. 2011 when rain fell on already saturated ground. Also the festival is so much better at putting wood-chip down on the main routes now, many areas were walkable in trainers by the Sunday night.

The festival itself was great, as always :-) . I feel for Rudimental, who had their set cut short by lightning though!

Can I just add my thanks to Jackone and you others as someone with little understanding of the complexities of weather prediction I am in awe of your knowledge and it certainly enhances the Glasto experience.

I was above the Park stage by the Glastonbury sign on the Saturday afternoon watching the most fantastic and dramatic dark clouds as they approached the site realising the power and unpredictability of nature . Just time to head to the tiny tea tent before the storm broke.

Thank you and looking forward to 2015

Any sign of a 2015 Glastonbury thread as yet?? I'm not a regular on the forums so apologies if I've missed anything, but I love dipping in at this time of year for the long range Glastonbury forecasts. Definitely become a big part of my yearly festival routine.

Dubai Floods: Another Warning Sign for Desert Regions?

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall. It doesn't rain very often here like other desert areas, but like the deadly floods in Libya last year showed, these rain events are likely becoming more extreme due to global warming.
