This is similar to my "Summer vs. Winter" poll I did a few weeks back, but this one has a few differences. You can now choose between any season and also tell us all which one you hate. Why make this thread? - Well why not! :)

My favourite season is quite a difficult choice between Spring and Summer, but I think Summer does just come out a bit farther ahead. This is because I like the feeling of being warm and having long days to do what you want with. I also like the powerful thunderstorms that Summer creates. Spring however does bring quite varied weather, like the possibility of a March snowfall and an early arrival of Summer in May, but as said, I think I prefer Summer slightly more.

My least favourite season would definately be Autumn. I absolutely hate Autumn! The only thing I like about it is how beautiful the trees can look but that is about it. September is the only decent month with the other two simply being a mix of horrible wet and windy weather. It is also too cold and too dark to now enjoy the sun and warmth and it's too mild for snow. You're also watching everything die and rot, especially in October and November. Autumn is just depressing in my opinion and that's why I hate it!

Summer is my favourite. Light evenings and usually warm enough to relax outside with some beers with friends. Just like generally being out and about when the weather lets us. Also whilst I wouldn't like high humidity for long, I do enjoy the thunderstorms in mid-summer - if we are lucky they can be a good show...rather lacking though in recent years.

There are some things I like about Autumn but is probably my least favourite, only because it is when the summery colours start to fade and the noticeable decrease in daylight hours starts becoming more apparent. Yes you get the brilliant display of autumn colours to but once this fades everything starts looking all dull again! Also don't like those muggy damps days you often get in Autumn.

I'm quite suprised that Spring has been completely ignored so far. I thought quite a few people would have voted for it as their favourite season.

Winter is my favourite season and I find it by far the most exciting, although often very frustrating too but I suppose that's all part of the fun!!

Although I don't dislike any of our seasons and they all have their plus points, on balance Spring is probably my least favourite.

Hard to say as I like things about all seasons, and most (at least summer/winter) can get me thinking this my favourite if they give the right weather types, though summer probably just about wins it for me at the moment.

Autumn would probably be my least favourite, though I do find active Atlantic lows, leaf colours and the first frosts interesting.. Not really a fan of the dark nights drawing in these days.

As a fan of sunshine and convective activity, it has to be summer, but spring isn't far behind.  This is also illustrated by the results that I get if I think of what my favourite seasonal quarters were since I started taking weather records- I think Spring 1995 might well edge the number one spot, but after that I'd be looking at a long succession of summers (1994, 1995, 1996, 2003, 2005, 2006, and maybe 1999 and 2013) before the next-highest non-summer season, and then chances are that one would be another spring (2001 and 2008 being two obvious candidates).

Winter and autumn both have their moments, but fall a fair way behind summer and spring- I'd put winter third, because of the excitement that those rare bright snowy spells bring (the calendar year of 2010 particularly springs to mind), with autumn fourth.

Spring definitely the best for me, love the increasingly day length and the variety from big snow events (last March) to glorious clear warm sunny days with rich blue sky that only seem possible around March/April and again in September. That first 15c of the year, the first 18c, the first 21c, lack of humidity, minimal cirrus-haze or stratocumulus days ruining forecast sunny days which seems to happen from now to the end of August.

Autumn is the worst purely for that period from Early October - Mid November, although in recent years that period has been frequently rather pleasant with decent sunny days and well above average, with the grotty weather that should be associated with then coming on weeks such as the past one.

Summer is the best season for me. Long days, warm weather and lots of fun.

While I hate cold weather and short days, I have to say that Autumn is probably my least favourite season due to it's instability and usual wetness. It's typically a depressing season, especially from October onwards as you notice the transition to short days and approaching cold. Hate seeing the leaves fall from the trees too.

Winter / autumn / spring / summer in that order. Winter gets 75% of the vote and autumn gets 25%. Spring and summer (or summer and spring, who cares) can 'do one' - permanently.

Counter-intuitively I chose winter as both my favorite and least favorite season.  This is because I like all seasons especially winter if they are cold or cool such as winter 2010, spring 2013, summer 2011 and autumn 1993 but I hate all seasons especially winter if they are horribly mild or hot such as winter 2014, spring 2011, summer 2003 and autumn 2006.

Too right - I was awake at 4am (didn't go to bed 'til 0230) and I've spent much of the morning trying to 'catch up' on the sofa. No chance, it's a losing battle against the increasing light, warmth and outdoor noises. Now feel like I've just crawled outta the hedge bottom after two gallons of ale and I've given up trying. It's miserable, no other word for it. If I could reach into the sky and pluck the sun out of the heavens and rip it to bits, I would. Roll on autumn.

Summer for me is favourite. One has to just be outside today to see why. Difficult to say whether Autumn or winter is worst. Autumn is a rotten season all about decay and damp. That musty manure smell is horrible. As for winter, i wouldnt choose to jump into a freezing cold bath, hence why i also find winter cold generally uncomfortable, unless its incredibly still so you dont feel it. I Like sunny and cold days though but there has to be no wind at all.

Having thought about it a bit more I have to say they all have good and bad points to them, think it is more about the weather you get in them that can play havoc if very extreme and prolonged, it is nice to see the light and sun in summer, same as a bit of snow in winter or a picturesque hoar frost, too much rain and wind I detest, both of which in recent years have come out of season.  Spring new growth and promise along with Autumn colours.

No no no! It's all about maturity and fruition, and that feeling of things winding down and nature slowly gliding into dormancy is wonderful. And I love that smell - beats barbeques/sweat/stale beer and sunscreen hands down.

Summer, of course. There is a certain feel to things when the sun is shining and the temperature responds accordingly - people are undeniably happier, everywhere feels alive and buzzing with street cafes and beer gardens, buildings look brighter and more attractive in the sunlight, even the ugly concrete ones. Even pretty places look ugly when it's overcast and raining. There is no motivation to get up on a morning if it's drizzling and cold with fog or mist - you just want to stay in bed all day until the sun comes back.

Oh, and the best part of summer - no mud. I absolutely HATE mud with a passion.

Winter would probably be my favourite if it was more like Helsinki or Stockholm, because they at least get snow to compensate for the darkness and lack of sunlight, but we don't.

Winter is the best.

July-September is the worst, horribly humid.

I've gone for spring- not only can it bring all kinds of weather but it's often the funniest season here and even the most boring one can be relied on to provide its most pleasant feature- the lengthening days after months of 5pm darkness.

A nice summer is very nice indeed as is a cold snowy winter, but in this sorry excuse for a climate we have neither can be relied upon. Weeks of cloud and rain in July and August or winters like 2013/14 are the pits.

Autumn I've voted as least favourite simply because extreme temperatures are rare, however it is mainly October and early November that I find boring and tedious a lot if the time. Especially about 15 Oct-15 Nov which nearly always seems to be wet, cloudy with temps around 8-13C. September is OK, and late Nov can have its moments as did early Oct in 2011.

Winter.... Yes, yes, yes! Cold & snow all day season long!.. Autumn...No, i find it frustrating waiting for the cold too finally come.

It's just a transitional period in the year for me that's dull and boring.

Then again i do like to have a walk in the park, through all them rustic smelling leaves :)
