After looking at the lightning map there is some action down in France but right in the far south, when are the real fireworks meant to start?

Ok, I understand your fear of thunderstorms and I had a fear of thunderstorms up until I was about 14. All you have to do is keep calm, watch it and nothing will happen to you.

I was really scared of thunder until i was 15 (ish).

I really hated the noise of the thunder and would cover my ears so i couldn't hear it. Makes no sense now - especially as I'm more likely to be hurt or otherwise by a lightning strike. Maybe I thought my ears would pop if it was too loud. Can't really remember!

It then changed from something I was petrified of to something I can't get enough of! TBH I still get a tingle of fear and anxiety about 5 mins before a big storm hits but that all adds to the excitement...

Same here, I haven't been scared of thunder for 30 years but I still get butterflies as a storm approaches.

Still can't see where the action is gonna come from, but then again I'm not very good at the science bit - just keep staring at rain radar and blitzortung and waiting for the splodges

I reckon it will pop up when destabilisation occurs. I was thinking the same as you on July 23rd last summer. Things didn't start kicking off until at least 11PM. By midnight onwards, it was absolutely astonishing and one of the best storms for sure. Went on for 7 hours straight !!

Lot of cirrus making the sky milky here, the wind has picked up a lot and the temp has dropped. No storm clouds as yet on satellite or radar...

Actually looking at the V4 Radar right now it looks like the cape is slowly shifting North towards Southern England. I like the V4 radar for that reason and the help for nowcasting.

Ian F's forecast. https://m.facebook.com/pointswest?v=timeline&filter=1One thing's for certain, there's a lot of uncertainty.

I think it'll be an early start for you guys on the south coast http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/forecast-video/21416951

What you explained in your post is exactly how I changed.

I remember being scared all day because dad said there was a storm due. I think there is some link between the (then) fear and the (now) passion for it. I'm not a brain scientist so I couldn't tell you if there was, but it's gone from one extreme to another...

Then I chose o live in Surrey - one of the most unthundery counties in the UK

(until tonight... hehehe)
