Two huge gusts of wind before the moderate rain fell for ten minutes with one lightening bolt and loud crack of thunder.... Wind blew the garden furniture across the patio...

Think things are gonna swing by north of us in Leicester....

What's the farthest distance you can actually hear thunder from...? I know there's a few things that can modify the results, but what's the recognised maxima??

Big lively storm passing over Preston, just missed me in Euxton to the west by about 5 miles. Only light rain and distant rumbles, but frequent lightning and very agressive looking wall cloud. Pretty looking thing! Just waiting for one more to pop up to the east of where that developed so we get a direct hit!!

I think we've got a bit of this! Currently pouring down, no thunder heard (yet!)

Nothing for the SE, and this is set to contine for some time. The far south east got something, London could not trigger anything, bloody annoyed if I'm honest I was ever so optimistic, and usually I'm reserved. We had a good storm, 2-3 week ago, but this year has been dire we got more during January. The year is far from over, I just have a bad feeling about this year...

Hi, 7cm hail just been reported south of Stuttgart, Funny how just in time for the 70 anniversary of the D-Day landings many major German cities get a pasting from above once more :vava:

To whom it may interest: here is a link to a Swiss website providing hi res Radar coverage with lightning overlay of Switzerland, SW Germany, E-France, Austria west and northern Italy. It is free of charge and very accurate:

http://www.metradar.ch/2009/pc/index.php

You can watch Stuttgart being thumped in technicolor, Blue means slight, green medium, yellow high and pink extreme precip with hail. Orange dots are cc strikes, red dots are CGs

Please excuse the quality of the english version grammar wise, I am busy preparing a revised one :-)
