*Stormforce~beka* The mornings are getting darker now, and have been since the 18th of June.

I’ve normally spotted this before now… But due to the fact that I haven’t been on earlies, (as my alarm goes off at 03:15) for a few weeks, plus excessive cloud coverage… I’ve yet to witness the increasing darkness at the morning end of the day… (Or at 03:15, is what normal people would call the middle of the night. Lol 😂

But according to the Time and Date website, the sunrise is 13 minutes later than it was on the 17th of June!

Even though this is my understanding, I hope this helps a bit. 😊

Well here it is folks… Proof that the darkness is returning! 🥳

Both of these images were taken at 03:15
The top image was taken Friday the 21st of June, (just five days after the earliest sunrise) and the bottom image was taken today, Monday 15th July… Just over four weeks later.

Cheer up o’fellow cold and dark lovers! The good times are now slowly returning at both ends of the day! 🥳

Subtle light level loss noticeable on overcast wet evenings, but not noticing much at all on finer clear ones - mind not had many of them this month!

It isn't until about the second week of August I really notice the loss of light.

Until then its long light evening time.

damianslaw we’re starting to lose the lingering glow on the horizon now. To the naked eye it seems to go properly dark around 1am now whereas a month ago it didn’t.

True darkness returns officially here in approx 10/11 days time.

Today is the first time that I've started to notice the nights gradually drawing in. It's always around the start of the school summer holidays that I begin to notice.

The drawing in of the nights starts becoming more rapid once we are in the second week of August. Until then, the change is very gradual.

The start of Astronomical darkness begins this Tuesday 24th July. Meaning stargazers will be treated to pitch black skies where no light pollution exists from there on across the southern Britain at least. Also means that the rate of decline in daylight rapidly decreases  from there on until October. 😲

lassie23 You need to head above the Arctic Circle. No darkness up there at this time of year.

Noticing it in the morning on a night shift now. Takes until around 5am to get reasonably light rather than closer to 4.

A conflicting time. In hot times especially I look forward to the reduction in temperature but it's also this time when I feel like those magic long summer days and early mornings start to fade. Wish it could be May forever lmao.

I'd probably have noticed the difference in the mornings by now if I got up at that time but as for the evenings - well when it's a settled evening I have daylight until well beyond around 21:30 for now so not that much difference in that respect.

But things are now beginning to change much faster at this time of year now - in 2 weeks time, 8th August, sunset will be 21 minutes earlier than today. That's in comparison to the last 4 weeks or so since the longest day - where the sun only set 25 minutes later than it has today.

For this neck of the woods, sunset is now 35 minutes earlier than it was on the night of the solstice.

Tonight is also the last night of astronomical twilight lasting throughout the entire night which means that tomorrow night will be the first night I will see true darkness since 17th of May.

I’ve got to wait till the 5th of August for my first pre 21:00 sunset of the season!

But the speed that this year is moving, it’ll be here in a blink of an eye! 😁🙏🏻👍🏻👌🏻

Morning everyone. 😊

Well today is the day that true darkness has returned to my neck of the woods since the 14th of May! 😃🥳

Yes between 00:57 and 01:38 true darkness returned to those of us at 53° North.

So the lingering twilight season (for me anyway) is now over with for another year. 😅👍🏻

If I get chance later, I’ll post a list up of when the darkness returns for those further north.

🎶Hello darkness my old friend🎵I’ve come to talk with you again… 🎶

Well I'm now three days in from the return of the darkness to my neck of the woods, and I was shocked this morning at how much the darkness has increased at the morning end of the day, in just those three days!! 😃

And... For the record... For those of you who are further north than me, (which is a heck of a lot of people! Lol 😂) Tonight is the night that the darkness returns to Blackpool!!

Newcastle Upon Tyne has to wait a few more days until the 4th of August.

The border town of Berwick-upon-Tweed has to wait until the 10th of August.

Then its up to Scotland to witness the last of the lingering twilight!

Edinburgh has to wait until the 12th of August, (Aberdeen is the day after!)

Dunnet Head in Caithness (the most northerly point of the mainland UK) has to wait until the 17th August

In fact the last place in the UK to witness the lingering twilight will be that rocky outcrop, of Out Stack (otherwise known as the full stop at the end of Great Britain- which is not far from the Muckle Flugga lighthouse) finally witnesses the return of the darkness on the 24 of August!!

The lingering twilight season is now slowly drawing to a close for another year.
