TheOgre  exactly sod the extra hour of daylight in the morning i'd rather have darker mornings and have it stay light till 5pm and anyway what about torches or brighter street lamps to mitigate the darker mornings

chris888 Sorry, I have to disagree!  I cannot abide dark mornings - for instance, I just love the summer mornings when it's light at 4.30 am -  I find it difficult to motivate myself, can't see to get dressed or do my make-up, hate driving in the dark too!  I would also suggest that a good proportion of people don't even finish work until 5 pm or later, so what's the point in it being light at that time in autumn/winter?

chris888  totally agree, we had to crimp our plans on the weekend because it gets dark earlier than it needs too, whilst the extra light in the early morning is wasted... Just so glad I dont live in the east of England that would be really depressing with even earlier sun rise/ sunset times than here.

Been said many times but the reason we don't do BST all year round is because the sun in Scotland won't rise until 9.30-10am which is late for anyone. Means kids don't walk to school in total darkness. Whatever decision is made, it will affect people both negatively and positively. If we kept any timezone all year then GMT makes more sense.

Could put the clocks forward 30 minutes so it's between winter / summer time and keep it at that, what would people think of that

Cirrusly Snowy  if we kept gmt all year in june in my location in manchester the sun would rise at 3.40am with it starting to get light around 2am  and the sunset would be around 8.42pm now for me i'm a night owl so i enjoy light in the early hours when there's very few people around however for most other people they won't be awake to see the early morning light and will also miss out on the extra hour of sun we see in the evenings on bst

Not seen the sun here since Sunday 26th, not even brief glimpses.   Doesn't get properly light, then dusk draws in from mid-afternoon.  Trying to keep SAD at bay, but spells like this make me feel trapped, anxious and flat.

Just 3 months and the days will noticably be drawing out....

The issue for me is when we go back to BST. It shouldn't be all the way at the end of March. There is so much wasted evening light by that point and it starts to get light by 5am. Should put the clocks forward in mid February imo.

ManiaMuse Yes, it would make the second half of February more pleasant as we already have the feeling of spring being on the way with the day length increasing rapidly. An extra hour of evening light would give a bigger boost to that feeling!

Just realised that at my location I only have 30 minutes of evening light to lose before mid December when the sunset gradually starts getting later again.

Another dark dreary low light day, the recent conditions since the clocks went back have brought very drab gloomy days, every bit in feel to the 'dark days before christmas' albeit a good month and more early..

There is a chink of brightness on the far horizon right now, hopefully tomorrow will bring clearer lighter skies preventing the early descent into dusk.

Today has that bleak mid winter long Sunday feel about it.

Evening everyone. 😊

Well thanks to tbe anticyclonic gloom, this evening was the first sunset I have seen since about the 23rd of October! 🌅

But oh boy! What a sunset it was!! 🌅😍🙌🏻👌🏻

For those who want the technical details… The last glimmer of the sun’s disc slipped below the horizon at 16:10… But the sky came to life around 16:30. 🌅😍

Last week some days it felt like it never really properly got light (totally agree with the bleak midwinter feel), this week has been better and we've even had a few lovely clear bright mornings here in East Anglia.
