WEATHER ALERT

Category: Level 3 Warning

Weather type: Heavy rain and thunderstorms

Affecting: Midlands, possibly East coast later on

Date Valid For: 17:00 until 20:00, Thursday 22 July 2004

Time Of Issue: 17:30, Thursday 22 July 2004

Discussion: An area of precipitation which started in the north west of Central Southern England has tracked north-east during the next few hours, increasing in strength all the time. It is relatively fast-moving but expect intense downpours, with thunder and lightning from time to time. Following the track of the precipitation over the past fw hours, it looks like clipping the northern coast of East Anglia and hitting the East coast. Remember, showers in that region could develop very quickly, just like this feature did.

The focus will tonight switich to the SE of the country as sharp storms currently over France may move up over the channel and affect the SE. This is still 50/50 in my opinion, but if it does develop, then it could be quite severe. Stay safe.

Tricky travelling conditions can be expected under the precipitation.

Confidence Level: 70%

Note: This alert should be considered a guide and we strongly recommend you stay tuned to the Met-Office for further warnings and updates.

Expect further updates as and when needed.
