A minimum of -2C here, that's colder than anything last winter, it never dropped below freezing last year.

Absolutely gorgeous day here with sparkling blue skies.

Like to correct you on that, on the Essex Coast  - it did but not below -2c! December 11th, January 12th/21st 3 air frosts in total :)

Already recorded the same number of frosts this meteorological winter as I did last winter and we are only in the first week and also with lower minima at that.

-3.0C

Kind of surprising how few/none air frosts some had even though it was continuously mild. in Devon I recorded 17 air frosts last winter (though we are in a relatively frost prone valley). -3.8c in December was the lowest, Jan and Feb had lows of -2.7c and -2.3c which was poor (though no worse for absolute minima than Jan/Feb 2013's -2.4c and -2.4c funnily enough). November 2013 had -3.9c, the lowest of the season.

This mornings min at home of -2.9c beat anything in January or February last winter, though not December (or November).

I might just add that I was in Saffron Walden last winter, so I might have just been out of luck last year :)

For some reason that areas tend to not get as cold in the winter compared to other parts of the region. A couple of mornings back in November it has been frosty here, yet despite clear skies it has been frost free back in Saffron Walden when I travel up there for work.

There is a snow warning for parts of the region as well, though I presume only for high ground - though as we have seen before, it doesn't take much for a surprise and unforecast snowfall to occur. 850 temps are certainly cold enough.

A raw day overall, early frost and cloud cover, a very slow temperature rise, with light rain/drizzle by evening. Temperatures are now at there highest level all day at 8 degrees but will soon drop once the front clears through.

A very wintry December type of day.

Braemar Snow gate! It's snowing :) http://braemarscotland.co.uk/snowgate-webcam/

Nice.

This week coming looks set to bring some good snow to the highlands (dusts off snowboard...) with most of the country seeing some wintry temps.  After that it will be interesting to see what happens. Hoping for something very wintry for xmas when I head back to Scotland.

Still coming down on that webcam, magical to see despite nothing like that this way, keeps the snow fix going I suppose, bit like a Electronic cigarette ;)

Had 11 hard frosts now and a min temp of -4.6 so far and currently a dusting of maybe 2 inches of snow so far better than last year already. Last winter only had 6 hard frosts here!

I love that comment and great to read someone making a sensible comment about snow depth, most will envy you already.

And at last! With 22 days to go, I've had my first air frost of the year; minus 0.1C at 7.45am!! I really thought this year would be air frost free on the south coast, which is unheard of.

Would love to know what piers Corbyn has been taking for his medication. He has issued his dec forecast free of charge on his page. He seems to think we are all going to see heavy crippling snowfall in next few days. And he quotes we will see feets of snow in places much worse than dec 2010. Sorry but think he is setting up here for a epic fail. But I guess this is the same guy who predicted hottest August in 100yrs and look how that turned out.

Alright the BBC really are trying to tease me now! Putting these two symbols so close together really suggests that Friday night could get interesting!

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall.
