As a poetic text it is a classic of epic proportions, as a factual record of India's past technology it's as beliveable as Genesis or or stories from the Greek legends.

One of the comments below suggests it's more likely a description of a journey to afterlife.

Some ancient cultures probably were more advanced in science than we imagine though.
For example basic battery technology doesn't require anything they didn't have access too.
There's a programme coming up about the astonishing achievements of The Incas will be interesting.

4wd: Agreed, if we concentrated more on the actual achievements of the ancients rather than their mythology and religious interpretations we would learn a great deal. Mathematics for example was way ahead of anything the Romans could come up with given the cumbersome system of numerals and the total abscence of a concept like zero or negative numbers.

One of the biggest disasters in the ancient world was Alexander (so called) The Great's burning of the library at Persepolis. An ignorant act of pure vandalisim!

The powers that be want people to believe what they want us to believe and not their secrets that called the censored mainstream media then.

As past evidence was destroyed, they don't want folks to thinks for themselves,to alternative technologies.

A huge amount of the bible is censored or changed.

This is standard "Ancient Aliens" stuff - and all depends on how very liberally you translate and interpret ancient stories and ignore more accurate translations, poetic phrase and context.

Worth a read:

I don't know about 'Ancient aliens', was a big fan of 'Chariots of the gods' when i was 15 (and it was just out) but was 'cured' by 16 when beeb 2 did a debunk! Since then I have developed an interest early civilisations possibly developing before the last ice age? As such we could have developed, in a different direction to how we moved today ( fossil fuel dominance?) and over a much more 'localised' area geographically due to much smaller populations?

As such maybe we will, eventually, find submerged evidence of high levels of technological advancement when we ought to have been in the old stone age?

If there were any technologically advanced civilisations on Earth during the last ice age, they didn't use any industrial processes ....

The contents of ice cores are a tell tale signal of what we did and when :)

Whilst it is possible that societies more advanced than simple hunter-gatherers may have existed earlier than we currently have evidence for, living in coastal regions during the ice age that are now underwater, they did not have advanced technology beyond the wheel and the ability to build two story houses out of mudbricks.

Dubai Floods: Another Warning Sign for Desert Regions?

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall. It doesn't rain very often here like other desert areas, but like the deadly floods in Libya last year showed, these rain events are likely becoming more extreme due to global warming.
