In the past people would be watching an event like this in terror. They would be awaiting the end of the world to soon follow. :D

OMG I can see stars in Greater London! :)

About a dozen I usually have to go out of London for similar scenes - this lunar eclipse is quite special.

We're pretty much at the point of the greatest eclipse now. The opposite happens now...

Saw the eclipse about an hour ago but we have very thick fog here now so no blood moon to see. Good pics coming through.

I did expect it to be more of a blood red but I'm not complaining.

This was taken in Dublin credit to whoever took it.

Damn lucky where I am for this, the fog-bank rolled in just 5 minutes into Totality and it was 'biting nails' in terms of how close and fast those clouds came in. Can't complain though as I did get a few good shots with the D3100.

Can't share my pictures until the end of the eclipse. I now have much greater respect for the people who try and photograph these events because I now realise how difficult it actually is.

04:23 - the top left corner of the Moon is starting to brighten now, as totality ends.

Yes it really has been difficult to get a clear shot. Really need a tripod for my DSLR. Will get one soon though. Still should have some Ok images though. Played around loss with the exposure/aperture settings etc.

Thanks all for the super pics. Good that so many had a lovely view.

I got up but it was hopelessly foggy.  :(

Lovely eclipse. It wasn't a "bright" total lunar eclipsethe-danjon-scale.jpg

1 or 2 on the Danjon scale?

Certainly a 2 here, probably approaching 1 at greatest eclipse. The top of the Moon was barely visible, and the brightening at the bottom was more pinkish-red than silver.

A great sight, especially with it being a supernova.

Oxfordshire - nice and dark, but with a little light at the bottom was curiously better than flat deep red. My daughter said it looked like a massive translucent marble hanging in the sky. Worth being tired for!

I got up just after 4 and managed to get a photo - my image is blurry (as was I) but the blood colours come through great!

That was an amazing lunar eclipse! I watched it until the moon was fully eclipsed and then as it turned red I headed off to bed! However, I've only just woken up! LOL :D

Some photos from last night:

Here starts the painstaking task of aligning all of these photos and putting them together in a time-lapse. It might take me a while.

Some great photos everyone, thank you for sharing them. We set an alarm for 03.00 and were so glad we did as the blood red colour was awesome to see as well as being eerie due to some low cloud blowing off Salisbury Plain.
