10 years since this short Arctic blast: 8th April 2005

Remember this well. Showers broke out in the afternoon of the 8th April 2005 here but what struck me was you could actually see the preciptation falling as the showers developed. They were of soft hail and snow in nature.

We had a period of heavy snow on the evening of the 8th from this that covered the ground and lasted beyond 0900 the next day. It is the latest in the year snow has laid on the ground here since 1999 now.

 

The 8th itself was rather cold with a max of just 6.3C. Until 2013 it was the coldest since 2000.
