Changeover day today and Housekeeping and then Chase Day 1 of Tour 3 will be spent driving North to get into position for an active period in the Northern High Plains

Yep a relatively early shift North for risk Mon and Tues. Details will change but a quick look at GFS suggests Rapid City, SD may be North enough to latch on to predicted activity.

There is one huge advantage though - you will leave the floods and rain behind and be in somewhat clearer, crisper conditions in theory.

This Nick F

Just left our Best Western stay over in Dallas and heading towards NW Kansas to get a head start for tomorrow's slight risk in the northern Plains. Might be some storms coming off the Front Range  this evening/tonight and heading E/SE over our hotel tonight for some lightning.

I wouldn't rule out a brief tornado Paul - if moisture of 50F plus can return to NE KS, wind profiles will promote mesogenesis on any storm rolling down off the high terrain.

Then another leg North Monday and he Black Hills west of Rapid City still look decent for Monday.

We're not streaming today, as it's a travel day, to save paying for the bandwidth. Will be on tomorrow when we'll be properly chasing. Currently heading through Oklahoma, probably stopping at Wichita for lunch

Saw a lovely supercell over Wallace Kansas. Caught a few CC's & caught 1 CG and that was a beauty

Looks like another hard drive today then (8hrs) just to get to the southern extent of the 2% risk zone, but at least you will be in a more favourable area for tomorrows and the next days more significant risks. With this in mind my target today would be Redig, SD. There looks to be a pulse of moisture around 00Z , modest CAPE and with this area slight better upper wind profiles.

If this drive is too far, then another area may be Harrison in NW Nebraska so as to avoid the forested areas in SW SD. Shear may just be strong enough here - but I guess in this type of set up how the weak troughs interact with each other plays a significant part of where the higher risks are.

Good to get away from the floods- I for one will not miss the floods.

Potential 'sleeper' day creeping in for Weds.

A tweak in shear profiles and we could have a MDT tornado risk for E KS/W CO given current progs.

Have you got your E & W round the right way?

Oh yes - well spotted

Atmosphere destabilising in vicinity of lee trough now far W NE/SW SD as evident by recent towering Cu field. The warm sector should be suitably juicy to support super cell structures I would think dropping through the Black Hills in the next three hours.

I should add that there are also a few storms now moving east from SE WY towards the NE line which I guess the team may be close to.

I managed to punch through the core of that Rapid City cell and was treated to a hell of a display :) Car has seen better days though although in my defense, it was people blocking underpasses that got me stuck in the core! :/

Did you get their number to use in your defense?

The number of hailstones? Now that would be something
