Nov-Feb i clearly love winter. Something better than Feb 10 would be good, it's a weak month compared to the others.

March-July i generally love hot and dry albeit i hate humidity so my love is very specific once we get to summer.

Aug-Oct i like an early Autumn. North westerlies and generous wind and rain.

I have noticed that i like sharp, out of season things (March and August notably).

My ideal year would be a very cold year with a cold winter, cold spring, cold summer and cold autumn all included and would be made out of these months:-

    January 1963 (-2.1C)

    February 1986 (-1.1C)

    March 2013 (2.7C)

    April 1917 (5.4C)

    May 1902 (8.9C)

    June 1916 (11.8C)

    July 1965 (14C)

    August 1956 (13.5C)

    September 1952 (10.7C)

    October 1817 (6.4C)

    November 1919 (3.3C)

    December 2010 (-0.7C)

    Year CET 6.07C! :cold:

I would have chosen the all of the coldest months on record but 22nov10blast beat me to it! :yahoo:

I must admit, I find Summer Blizzard's choice unusual.  A cool/very cold late summer through late winter period yet with a very warm early spring through mid summer period.  Hyper continental!  Not even countries like Alaska, Canada and Russia and Scandinavia can pull that off!

I like sunshine and dry weather but i only like dry heat. I cannot stand humidity and don't care much for showers ect..

Since late summer/early Autumn produces humidity more often in the hot spells, i prefer spring heat which is lovely (and often has a cool sea breeze).

September 1959 Indian Summer and drought

January 1963 Extreme cold and drifting snow

    February 1969 Polar Lows

    August 1976 Summer heat

February 1979 Bitter winds and drifting snow.

December 1981 ? Early winter freeze and blizzards

so my year would be if I could re-live it would be April 2010 - April 2011 in Edmonton Canada..had everything (including the kitchen sink) you could ever wish for..lots of cold..copious amounts of snow..early autumn warmth..massive summer storms..huge damaging hail..even the odd tornado thrown in for good measure.

    Ideal year:

Winter - generally cold and snowy with undercutting Atlantic and Channel Lows providing stalling frontal snowfall events over central UK. Would wake up to mornings of deep snow cover and thick, sparkling, frosts. Occasional, milder, sunnier periods to help break up the cold weather at times. But overall a blend of December 2010, January 2010/2013 and February 2010

Spring - A month delivering a mixture of everything from frequent potent North-Westerly and snow shower setups to warm, calm, sunny South-Easterly winds with blocking over Europe. Minimum amount of frontal rainfall events with most rain coming in the form of showers and thunderstorms. In early May, there would be an unusually cold, unstable, Northerly wind with -7*C 850 hPa temperatures reaching the Midlands and providing some monstrous snow showers and periods of thundersnow. But then a big warm up mid-month onwards with a 10 hour thunderstorm providing frequent hail and lightning. A blend of March 1995 and 2006, April 2008 and May 2006

Summer - No drizzle and North-Sea cloud allowed. The odd very heavy frontal rainfall event otherwise, like Spring, rain would come in the form of thunderstorms. Some sharp hail showers at times too, otherwise mostly warm and sunny. Would have elements from June 2006, July 2006 and 2014, and August 1995 and 2003

Autumn - Warm start with frequent slack Southerly winds with record breaking temperatures at the beginning of October. 31*C would be reached on the 1st of that month. Some very potent cold Northerly winds setting in towards end of the month with heavy hail and snow showers. November would see a mixture of warm and cold spells with some snow at times towards the end of the month. There would be a thunderstorm, too, that turns into a period of very heavy snow. Suitable matches for this: September 2006, October 2008/2011 and November 2005/2010.

If we are going to split months up:

    1-8 Jan 1997, 9-17 Jan 1987, 18-25 Jan 2013, 26-31 Jan 1996.

    1-12 Feb 1991, 13-25 Feb 1994, 26-29 Feb 2004

    1-7 Mar 1995, 8-13 Mar 2006, 16-23 Mar 2001, 24-31 Mar 2012 (what a month!)

    All of April 2007

    1-7 May 1995, 8-12 May 2008, 13-31 May 1992

    1-5 Jun 1996, 6-13 June 2006, 14-27 Jun 2005, 28-30 June 1995

    July 2006

    August 1995

    1-24 Sep 2006, 25-30 Sep 2011

    1-4 Oct 2011, 5-9 Oct 1995, 10-25 Oct 2001, 26-31 Oct 1997

    1-4 and 15-23 Nov 1988, 24-30 Nov 2010

    1-7 and 17-26 Dec 2010, 8-10 Dec 1990, 11-15 Dec 1981, 27-31 Dec 1995

Still stuck for 5-14 Nov. Any years that were anything other than dull, wet and horrid? Cant think of any, especially 7-10 Nov. If anyone thinks 2001, there wasn't any real snow except on the hills, here it was just dull and 6C instead of dull and 10C. 1993 didn't go cold till mid month.

Maybe 2007? If you like just generally dry autumnal feeling weather, that period of November 2007 felt autumnal enough with a few frosts from the 12th onwards. The 15th and 16th were particularly frosty though I see you've got that bit sorted. It was also often bright at least in my neck of the woods if a little breezy at times.

I don't remember much then, though I think that period in 2009 was at least pretty dry in a very wet November.

But the lack of interesting weather during that period of November can be shown by the temperature records for those dates. Here are the years they were set, note the absence of the last 30 years:

    Highest max:

    5th 1938

    6th 1972

    7th 2003

    8th 1881 (!)

    9th 1977

    10th 1938

11th 1916 (TORRO query this, next up is 1954)

    And the lowest min:

    6th 1981

    7th 1949

    8th 1923

    9th 1921

    10th 1875

    11th 1966

The 6th and 8th are particularly notable as the low records are only -7.2 and -8.9; higher than several days in October and May. The 2003 warm spell I remember well, it ended on the 7th and the following days were cloudy and boring, so it didn't cover this whole span of dates. 1938 may have been the year...

No mention of February 1986 or November 1985.Am surprised you picked a couple of warm months when its obvious you need to move to an Antarctic outpost!!

I find very mild winter months on the whole, tedious.

December 1988, January 1989, November 2011 were borefests.

    January 1979

    February 1986

    March 1995

    April 1995

    May 1992

    June 1992

    July 1995

    August 1995

    September 2006

    October 1995

    November 1985

    December 2010

I chose July 1995 but thinking about it, July 1994 edges it for me due to the thunderstorms.

    BBC forecasts from July 1994

A mild cool summer, crisp autumn and cold snowy severe winter. Spring can do what it likes as long as I get the other three lol can't stand summers in the 20s, can't wait for it to be done so the proper countdown to start. Nothing better than when the good old winter predictions start. I see there are a few already, earlier than usual - fine by me!
