A new thread for 3 July 2015 onwards. Potentially quite a loud night on the way for us north-westerners!

    On with the discussion. :)

Latest BBC forecast pushes the bright colours further eastwards but likely still a wet and possibly stormy start to Saturday coming up.

Hopefully we won't miss out completely but even if we did, we still have Wedneday nights to remember.

second that, the strong wind is drying the air.. but either way the coast was always going to be the wrong side of marginal for storms.

Thinking of it, the coast is the wrong side of marginal for everything.

Met Office says Northwest England should be a good spot for tonight.

Large uncertainty remains regarding areas most at risk from storms, and many areas will miss these altogether, staying largely dry. However, where they do develop, disruption is possible. The most likely area for disruptionis considered to be Wales, parts ofthe Midlands and northern (especially northwest) England, but a lesser riskextends around the periphery of this region.

A couple of flashes of lightning here in Newton le Willows (Merseyside). Something coming from the south....

After a chilly night (9C) very nice all day with some useful rays to catch. I managed to log 26-27C (minor UHI) despite a stiff breeze - a good F4.  Clouded up at teatime and a thunderstorm is now in progress, no lightning visible yet but loud  thunder. As of now, no rain.  Current temp 18.3C

Edit: 10:24pm heavy rain now started but electrical activity seems to have tapered off.

The sky is looking really threatening to the south of Manchester now.

    Why is so quiet here?

It seems that all of these thundery showers knocking around this area currently are all part of the warm front. If there is enough energy on that to produce storms, then the cold front will sure as hell produce storms. We could have a very memorable night tonight!
