A beautiful thing to see amidst such a tragedy as this has been.

Amber warnings for the Algarve facing coastal region today as the DANA event moves across to Portugal. Adjacent also to the red warning given by AEMET for the neighbouring Huelva region across the border.

Nothing however like what has been witnessed in the neighbouring country happening here. Facing the relatively cooler Atlantic makes a difference in these type of DANA set-ups for Portugal.

Feeds of showers have moved NW'wards from the Algarve & Alentejo today. A very intense downpour locally here at lunchtime for about an hour. There was no electrical activity with it. There is abundant capacity in the soil to drink surface water up & there is very little sign left of the downpour and the showers more generally are soon starting to fade away. The ecosystem will have welcomed it.

A pleasant warm weekend awaits. An interruption for a little rain Monday into Tuesday & then dry very warm weather resuming through the rest of the week. 25C looks possible  tomorrow & again by the middle of next week.

Friend of mine is in Menorca for another night before heading back to London tomorrow. He's got some distant lightning now.

 Metwatch am in Majorca and there were thunderstorms from around 10:30 this morning all the way through to 7pm this evening, a lot of rain has fallen and there has been some flooding by the looks of it though nothing majorly disruptive as it stands. Delays at Palma airport around 30km away were running up to nearly 2hrs but all seems to be calming down now

Impressive lightning frequency from him now. Can make out the structure quite nicely.

 matty40s ermmm, am in Santa Ponca.... admittedly I haven't left hotel today...but rainfall I have seen (as posted earlier) certainly suggests there could have been disruptions

Just slowmo-ed one of the clips he just sent, very cool double lightning strike inside the cloud with a CG out to sea. Mentioned the wind picking up so must be the outflow from the MCS arriving onshore now. 

Edit: Just on a video call with him now, very heavy rain but lightning easing off a little.

Oh, dear oh dear, our stagnant limp high pressure is doing nobody any good...

 

We are closely monitoring the formation of a new #DANA that could affect the Mediterranean again next week. A situation of instability is expected on the eastern coast of the peninsula and the Balearic Islands on Thursday , with the possible formation of a Mediterranean DANA leaving new rainfall and storms that could be intense, although still with a lot of uncertainty

Arome which performed very well last week has 350mm+ accumulating in a 24 hour period in the delta area of Ebre
