The winter forecast has just this minute been put live onto the site :D

There are two versions for you to read, first a summary which covers the key points from the forecast, and looks at each of the three winter months in a little more detail:

    http://www.netweather.tv/index.cgi?action=longrange;sess=

Second there is the in depth version, which is a much more detailed and technical run through of all the factors that Tony and Ed have taken into consideration when putting this forecast together.

    http://www.netweather.tv/index.cgi?action=winter-forecast-2015;sess=

This year has been a really tricky one, both Ed and Tony have put in a huge amount of time and effort to put this together, so just wanted to publicly say thanks to them both.

    Here's to a good winter!

Thanks guys for your hard work. Much appreciated. :) Have read the summary and will read the detail when home. Certainly looks like interesting weather might be coming up!

Have skimmed the detailed thread and will properly read later ( mini smart phone and eyesight issue in last year) but wow! Fantastic work and a valuable piece of work for students of meteorology IMHO.

I love the call for Jan to produce the goods of all months.  Something that has been rare for sometime.  Good luck guys, always a thumbs up from me for any worked on attempt at LRF and especially when its been worked on and prepped like yours.

Well done guys . Though I must say I hope the predictions of above average temperatures in the south of the UK are wrong for December and February. I'll take the below average predictions for January though. Appreciate the effort nonetheless.

Good read and thanks for the time and effort put in to supply us with the forecast!

Seems like it's January or bust then!

Nice forecast, but couldn't you have made it a longer cold spell? I suppose I'll have to settle for the "heavy snow for Alps" bit in Dec, but not on the day we arrive to ski again this year please.

    Great work.

I'll settle for the colder, snowy weeks in January.

Havent seen that many in my lifetime - Jan '2010, '87 and '79 are the exceptions (plus '63 of course).

I'm also a fan of a warmer end to Winter - cant stand cold March.

    Very well written :)

I do believe the core of the winter so to speak will be during January but I do not think February is a bust.

Once winter 15/16 comes to a finale we can access how well or not you guys did.

I have a weeks holiday mid January in the lake district hope the forecast works out.

A colder spell during late December is also welcome.

Putting a forecast together for three months is not something I would like to do in a million years so my hats off too Ed &Tony

As always, great work guys!  Not the best of readings overall for coldies, but January doesn't look too shabby and had this forecast been made prior to 2008, I'm sure we would have been very happy!  Interesting about the possibility of record breaking warmth late February - If this comes off, could we hit 70F for the first time during Winter?  I believe the current record is 19.7C set in February 1998, during the last super El Nino.

I hate to put a dampener on things, but I just hope it's a bit more accurate than the 2014/15 forecast which predicted a "cold hearted" winter. Nothing could be further from the truth as it was mostly mild and snowless.

A couple of weeks of severe cold in January would be OK despite a milder than normal February, and stormy, mild, and wet December.

A well reasoned approach, and analysis, probably one  of the best I've read this winter. A little bit of everything seems to be the consensus from this.

Thanks guys, do you intend to do a follow-up in March 2016 to review just how things went?
