No real mention of gales on the local forecast for tomorrow night. More emphasis on the rainfall amounts over the Pennines. Gonna be an interesting weekend either way.

Was that BBC Look North or do you get a different local there? Jennifer Bartrom did make a fleeting reference to the wind & rain warnings for the weekend lol

Rain now turning to snow across the Southern Uplands, also still snowing in the Cairngorms.

Yeah Look North. Just surprised given the Meto warnings, that nothing was really made of it. Time will tell I guess :-)

Most of the forecasters are like that on Look North, their attitude is the same when forecasting settled weather in summer (rare these days)  or more severe weather during winter, I'm sure they don't even check sometimes, as she said Fridays warning was for wind and Saturdays warning was for 'rain this time'... Obviously not clued up :)

Roads are like rivers in places round here with large puddles of standing water, rain not quite as heavy as it was.

There's snow falling across large parts of the south of Scotland, away from the Southern Uplands. Edinburgh area (although not City Centre), Fife, northern & western Borders, South Lanarkshire, down the M74. It's falling to relatively low levels, below 100m in places :)

Edit: But not here :(:D

I was just going by the precip type radar! Looks more widespread than that suggests...! :)

It was snowing before the precip type picked it up :)

There are also reports of bad road conditions due to water across large parts of Scotland too, I drove home at 40mph tonight as the roads were fairly bad. We don't get that much rain where I am relative to the rest of Scotland, but it's certainly been lashing down this afternoon and evening, it's pretty unusual here.

The heavy rain has been relentless this afternoon resulting in bad road conditions with traffic crawling along in places as water doesn't have time to run off, bit of a respite tomorrow before the rain returns later and this time it'll be accompanied by gales/severe gales creating additional hazards, tomorrow evening through to Sunday looks like a write off in places!

I can see a gap with our name on it no doubt. Should hit around nine.

That squall-line was fairly interesting as it passed here, some strong gusts and persistent torrential rain (not just heavy rain, but torrential) for 15 minutes. All is calm again outside now.

And with a forecast like this it can only get worse...

Weather warnings for wind lifted here in C/S England for Saturday. Looks like another crappy, windy drizzly day. I'll take that over floods any day though. Having endured the flooded sewers scenario a couple of years ago am quite happy with the boring weather, Some nice cold winter sunshine would be nice though!

That squall was a belter! As Snow_Joke said, torrential rain. Looked like hurricane footage out under the street light! (Stroud, Gloucestershire)

No real changes on the 18z from the previous run, a very wet and stormy spell from tomorrow evening through into Sunday morning with flooding possible and also some damage from the winds, looks like it could be blowing a gale for over 24hrs in some locations.

Friday evening with the strongest winds over Ireland then spreading across northern and western areas, top gusts of 70 possibly 80mph, very windy for many.

gfs380.thumb.png.fbffd9af1208b860ab80489gfs381.thumb.png.9ebc4c23e44fb42b62c8356gfs385.thumb.png.809345d52914f9300aabb10

Winds ease slightly during Saturday morning but remain strong before increasing further from the SW during the afternoon as the secondary low moves in, potential gusts of 70-80mph for parts of Ireland and across the Irish Sea into N Wales, N England and C & S Scotland where gusts could reach quite widely 60-70mph and 75mph in places.
