Very mild December of 1918

December 1918 had a CET of 6.9C

Dublin recorded a max of 15.6C on the 4th as did Scarborough on the 5th and Birr Castle on the 8th

The 23rd was stormy in the north, 72mph gust at Aberdeen.

Frosts did occur in the north but they were very limited further south.

Between now and December 1988, they were no milder December than the one in 1918. 

There was also a strong El Niño around that period.

Between 1988 and by the looks of it, most likely 2015, there were no notably mild Decembers.  December in the 1990s and 2000s escaped the warming trend that most other months in the year suffered from, and in these two very warm decades the Decembers were very much close to average overall.  The warmest December between 1988 and this year was in 2006, with a CET of 6.5, whilst still significantly above average, was still not in the top 20 warmest Decembers in the CET record.  In fact every other month in the year has seen a CET in the top 20 warmest ever (some months a large number) since 1988, which was the most recent occurrence of a December in the top 20 warmest ever.

I am not sure what state the ENSO was in during winter 1918-19.
