Archer28 And that's in the far north, not far from Bulgaria.

Climate change is an utter scourge.

Sandanski in Bulgaria just next to Serres has shattered its own record mean max T and is now also standing over 38.0C mean max for July...

We are talking ridiculous values for the Balkans.

Archer28 And I always think of Bulgaria as having a central European continental climate, admittedly warmer than places further north.

I'd have imagined southern Bulgarian norms in July to be upper 20s with plenty of rain from thunderstorms.

Meanwhile forecasts for this area do seem to be consistently showing something of a cool off for next week - still warmer than average but not extremely so, maybe only 1-2C above normal. Critically, nights appear to be cooler, still exceeding 20 but only just. Compared to this week I suspect it will feel moderate. Not sure about further south though.

Even still, the Greek word for summer "kalokairi", if you take its literal translation which seems to be roughly "good weather", seems to nowadays apply much more to autumn, winter and spring than it does summer!

In all fairness Sandanski just 40km away from Serres has much more similar climate to North Greece than to a typical Bulgarian place. Once you start moving south of Blagoevgrad you can notice significant differences in the Bulgarian climate. It becomes much more Mediterranean looking

11 consecutive days with T's over 40C in Greece and Serres HNMS has just equalled Seville's mean max record.

I've been in Cyprus for a week. Absolutely roasting. Pushing 40 degrees every day and haven't seen a cloud.

It's tolerable as long as you avoid mid day sun.

Marvellous.

Crazy heat. I’ll be in Halkidiki from 2nd August. Hoping the heat eases a little as we will have the kids with us. At least the sea will be warm!

Αctually there will be a brief drop to normal Ts between 26 and 28 July and then again the same lemon...Model suggest at least until the 5th of August the same situation...

Can you confirm if this tweet is actually correct? Or anyone else for that matter

12 consecutive days over 30.0C minimum T has never happened in Eilat???

Models predict August will be a repetition of July for Greece... At least until mid August.

Summer of 2024 is going down as Greece's hottest summer ever. Not only for Greece that is. Bulgaria, North Macedonia, Montenegro, Bosnia and many more Balkan countries are smashing their records...
