Yep, here anyway - sums up the weather really

Coldest April on record and that's despite having a day where it reached 18c.

December was considerably warmer all round and January had a higher mean minimum as well as 2 fewer frosts than April.

Was January a higher average temperature overall though, or just minima? January was 05.3C here and April was 09.2C - quite different and reflective of the much colder weather in January.

just minima, Jan mean was 5.0c and April was 6.4c (December mean was 8.0c)

January was fairly normal maximum temperature wise, but had horrifically mild nights on the whole and very few frosts.

Its still ridiculous and typical that after the mildest winter spell possible, the coldest April on record follows. . . .

just never ending 7-9c crap whatever time of year

You've definitely had it worse up there than down here. It's also crazy that lots of places had their coldest night since 2012 in January despite the anomalous mildness lol.

You fully deserve a good summer!

How far do the records go back though? That's the issue I have when someone says "coldest on record". In a record of 50 years, it has some meaning but in a record of just 10 years.....

Assume you mean coldest in terms of minima? Yes minima have consistently been very below average, maxima though only a bit below average - certainly not on a par with January. January produced a fair number of days with near average maxima but as you say way above minima thanks to persistant cloud and wind. I'm surprised you say coldest April on record?.. April 1986 produced very low minima throughout. April 12 produced colder maxima on many a day but closer to normal minima thanks to lots of cloud.

The tendency for cold April's on the back of very strong El Ninos continues.. 1998 saw similiar weather, indeed we've had many a cold April on the back of very wet very mild starts to winter.. 1986, 1989, 2012.

Yes Damien, also interesting how many of those years had warm Mays following on from the cold Aprils. 1998 and 1989 both had quite memorable Mays and this May looks like it is going to be turning warmer than average very shortly. Even 2012 had a very warm spell later on in May. 2008 was another example of a cool April followed by a warm May, although perhaps not on the back of an El Nino.

Dubai Floods: Another Warning Sign for Desert Regions?

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall. It doesn't rain very often here like other desert areas, but like the deadly floods in Libya last year showed, these rain events are likely becoming more extreme due to global warming.
