One of the things I enjoy doing from time to time is to search out locations enduring extremes of heat, cold, snowfalls and extreme winds. In winter I look at conditions for Summit Weather Station atop the Greenland Icecap and extreme frosts are often found in locations such as Verkhoyansk and Omjakron in NE Siberia in the winter months.

At this time of year (June) extremes are likely to be of great heat, 50C or above being recorded in parts of the Middle East (in particular Iraq, Iran and eastwards to NW India) and Death Valley in California. Locations across the Sahara can also get extremely hot in the summer. If it is extreme cold one wants then Antarctica has it's winter during the Northern Hemisphere summer and temperatures below -80C are recorded from time to time at locations such as Vostok and Dome A at over 3000 metres above sea-level on the East Antarctica Ice-Sheet. Satellite monitoring has uncovered temperatures as low as -93C in a frost-hollow high up in the Tranantarctic Mountains.

The website run by Wunderground is a good source of interesting extremes happening in other parts of the World, viz

Another source of information and extreme forecasts is Yahoo! Weather for selected very hot/cold locations. Viz,
