Whilest not keeping a tally chart :) I'd estimate hearing around ten rumbles of thunder now. Two of which were extremely loud and sounded directly above my house. :)

It does look like some parts of South Wales have had it bad

Many of the places in there are within 2 miles of me.

Meanwhile, cloud is increasing to my SW with a distant rumble of thunder...

Heavy rain and thunder just started here in the east mids, darker clouds moving in so hopefully torrential rain may be on the cards! Keep you posted.

Been going around 10mins for the current storm. Rain going from torrential to heavy all the time now, with thunder still occasional.

Rain seems worse now, and flooding is starting to occur outside my front door on my drive, and the outside road.

After only 10 mins this means flooding could get much worse, as according the current 1400 radar much more showers often heavy are only just starting to hit the midlands.

We got storms a few days ago with pretty bad flooding, but there seems to be a chance of something more this afternoon as the showers seem slow moving too!

Things starting to develop here.. loads of convection all over the place, no anvils so either they havent hit the inversion layer or the cap's busted.

Hello everyone

New to the site and not sure what the best thread for reportong current observations are.

I am in an elevated position in the West Midlands with a view from N around to SW. (M5 J2)

Lots of convective activity observed over the passed hour. Sky now fairly grey, difficult to assess vertical activity because of amount of cloud.

Increasing amounts of thunder heard over past half hour. Freq and volume; no lightning observed yet. Wind Increasing, currently Dry here at present, but raining over Birmingham. and headfing this way. Looks like a stormy afternoon in store.

Cell Update

Pretty decent size sell with heavy precipitation, and electrical activity has just passed directly over. (15.45 local) 3-4 lighting discharges per minute at peak with very loud thunder. Most lightning appears to be air to air, though some fork seen.

Moving at a reasonable speed NW ( along the M6 North towards wolverhampton)

Please note that the UK live lightning radar appears to show the activity slightly to far NW. Plenty more to come I think!!

Things have now cleared away in the midlands, things in southern ireland and scotland are looking nasty.

The showers around the midlands seem to be dieing out, but I should still hopefully get a few heavy burts before the days out,

There is a large cell passing over birmingham now. (16.15) Reasonable amount of air to Ground lightning. Good Storm front clouds ahead of the cell. Possible to observe the dowrnward movement of air within this cloud; sadly no rotation!!

Looking clearer to the South now.
