Came across this interesting article. We have had some major flood events in recent years and after 250 year old Pooley Bridge collapsed last December it made me think whether the bridge had ever seen a flood of that magnitude before. It seems from this research that we are indeed living in interesting times; from 600 years of sediment records from Basenthwaite Lake, two thirds of big flood events occurred in the last 20 years.
