Yes, there are severe weather warnings for many parts of central and southern Greece too. 7 people died from flash floods near Athens already.

Here's the latest satellite image and Arpege wind gusts and precip charts for this Saturday morning (18 Nov). Quite a rare event this, with only 100 such storms between 1947 and 2011 according to Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mediterranean_tropical-like_cyclone

I've been watching this beauty develop for the last hour or so. I think it must be over Granada. Might get to hear rumbles but nothing on radar yet

Wow,that's amazing, SR. The transition from Summer to Autumn, can initiate some spectacular t/storms, over Italy. Having had an Italian mother (born 25 miles, north of Naples), have seen a few, at this time of year.

A few clips of extreme weather from my mother's home town, Caserta, Campania, Southern Italy; Excuse the screaming, panic stricken, Italians!!

Why the heading is in Spanish, I have no idea!!

Temporale translates to, thunderstorm.

Regards,

Tom.  :hi:??

Hi Tom, yes people don't realise how extreme weather can get in Italy, in fact the snowiest place in Europe is also in Italy, Capracotta, to the east of Rome around the Abruzzi mountains where 250cm of snow fell once I believe in 18 hours and beat the world record, incredible stuff. The Italian Alps also regularly get huge amounts of snow of course. Found a few pics there.

I have links to Italy too including near Caserta, from a great, great grandmother who's passport I actually found, born 1859, and came to London as a young girl, was a model at Crystal palace apparently, and my mother is originally from Parma in the North of Italy.

Regards

Ray

More severe weather to come in Italy, up to 400m of rain forecast, its been raining heavily since yesterday in many places and its looking real bad for tomorrow. 4 have already been killed in a landslide in Crotone Southern Italy.

The last pic shows the snow falling this morning on the Italian alps at Livigno.
