An increasingly cold and windy night with sleet arriving from the east after midnight and quickly turning to snow. The snow was wet at first but turned dry and powdery during the early hours, though no great accumulation. Brief sunny intervals and light snow showers so far this morning.

Snow showers becoming heavier as the morning went little of the sunshine so the snow has a lot of pollution in it which is why it's melting even at -1.8C. Finally got a full covering but only a few millimeters which probably go very quickly in a few minutes as the sun comes out and temperatures lift

    Max temp -0.6C, now -2.2C low -2.2C, Barometer 1016mb steady, Wind F4 E, Rainfall 0.4mm melted snow.

A min last night well this morning or -0.1c as temps reached 2c max now -2.3c.

A day of sunshine and snow/soft hail showers got a slight covering, just been observed the first proper drifting on the field in the last snow shower.

Old snowdrifts, snow drifted off that 12 metres away from the entire drift interesting to see.

A very cold and windy day with sunny intervals and frequent showers of snow and soft hail, the showers becoming heavy at times later this afternoon with drifting. Only a slow accumulation of the snow before mid afternoon due to slight thawing in the sunny intervals and thawing from beneath with the ground unfrozen.

Just back in, a quite snowy Doncaster, starting to freeze on the roads as well. Two fairly marked blizzards late afternoon and again into the evening, blowing snow and visibility less than 200 m at times. Still only 1 cm or so. Perhaps the most wintry weather in terms of snow falling and being whipped up by a strong wind that I have seen in a very long time, other than when on my annual skiing holidays.

Current temperature -1.1 C having been down to -2.2 C at some time since I went out about 5 pm.

maximum in the sunny spells this afternoon was 1.8 C

It's been a wet March for much of the UK, with well above average rainfall, though the Northern & Western Isles have been drier than average. Despite a colder drier respite on Monday, staying generally unsettled to see out the rest of the month. But hints of some drier weather in early April. Read the full update here
