Anyone have any suggestions for parking at Heathrow when on holiday?

Can't really help but ouch! Looked online and some of the charges, even with discount, would make Dick Turpin blush.

We are so fortunate, free fairly local Park and Ride for up to a fortnight and with the wrinklies bus pass a free ride to and from the front door of Edinburgh Airport. Service runs at 20 min intervals from 6am to midnight.

Hopefully volunteering a member of the family to become a taxi driver. Fortunately flight departure and arrival back is mid dayish. So reasonably civilised. Hopefully parking will be plan B.

For one of the world's major international airports, Heathrow is a pain to both get to and park at. I live about 30-40 miles away and it takes me 2-3 hours to get there on public transport, unless I fork out for a taxi. I usually just get there the night before and stay in a hotel (Travelodge or Premier Inn tend to be just £25-30), pretty much stress-free.

It's my least favourite airport on earth and imagine elsewhere too....

I get the joy of connecting there for the first time in August, can't wait...

But I take issue with you saying it's the worst airport, Luton has to take that crown.

At least Heathrow has heating and some seats. Luton is a cheap and nasty airport for cheap and nasty airlines.

I had the misfortune of flying from there for a business trip. Was just after the big December snow event, I had paid for parking in the long stay car park, they hadn't even bothered to clear the snow. The inside of the airport was horrid and overcrowded too. Definitely the worst airport going.

I'm just back from Heathrow last night.  We used Purple Parking Valet parking.  I agree it's highway robbery there.

Since we drove up for a 9am flight on a Thursday morning, we didn't want to faff around with shuttles.  We missed the parking area and had to exit and go around again, but drop off was easy.  Getting back we had to wait about 10 minutes as the cars hadn't arrived.  Other than that, it was easy enough there.

Stansted has to be far worse than either LHR or Luton (not been to the latter in a long time but the former does at least have clean loos). That said, I'm flying to La Rochelle in a couple of weeks. Duty free there does't open until the beginning of May.

We now use JustPark,  went from T5 for 8 days to Russia. £29.

Parking was 5 minutes from terminal on a secure drive and the owner dropped us there for £5 and picked us up again afterwards for £10 ( late arrival).

Brilliant service and even offered us again cup of tea when we got there ( free)
