Some forecasters use SST values and patterns in May as one factor which inputs into there winter forecasts. I think the Met Office used to do this - not sure if they still do.

Anyhow it would be good to know what the current SST values are in the N atlantic. I've noted lots of cold air has spilled into the N Atlantic over recent weeks from Canada thanks to the SSW- I wonder what impact this has had, do we have the cold blob to our NW again... Have we a tripole setting up, warm -cold-warm, one signal that some use to predict winter ahead.

This isn't me thinking about the winter, just interested in current values and the effects of recent SSW..

Think we’ve entered a new cooler phase, similar to the 2008-13 era when most uk winters were colder than average.

18/19 will most likely be similar to the one just gone.
