Left rain soaked London for a few days to much nicer weather in Prague. Clear skies and it should reach 24C this weekend.

Feeling very autumnal over the last month or so. Had a few frosts, plenty of dense dogs and some intermittent rain. Not much sunshine, unfortunately. Chance of wet snow tomorrow.

The wet snow arrived here this evening, after a very damp afternoon. Great to see the huge flakes and the snow was very heavy for a while. A covering on most surfaces, though I expect it won’t last long.

Feeling a little more like winter here today, finally. Maximum temperature of 1°C and a few snow grains blowing in the brisk breeze. A couple of colder days are forecast but then milder air will return.

Lovely day here today, sunny and cool. Yesterday was nasty, a strong gusty wind, cold with a brief period of sleetiness. Think we need some rain here, but not much expected with that high pressure over Europe. Needs to move up to Scandinavia for some wintry interest.

Boring grey skies and a cold, gusty wind. Yuck.

Exceptionally mild today, reached 11C, sunny spells, felt nice but weird. Should be around freezing during the daytime.

Do you know what the January record is for Prague?  Would 11C in Prague be the equivalent of London recording 16/17C in January, considering Prague is on average significantly colder than London during the winter?

The January records for Prague are 17C and –27C, so the record high is the same as for London.

Generally, as you head east, the record highs stay the same in the high teens to low twenties and the record lows go down into the minus twenties and thirties, partly due to the greater continental variability of the climate, and partly due to the Föhn effect of the Alps and the Carpathians. If you take Salzburg in Austria, the January records are +21C and –30C. In Nowy Targ in the foothills of the Polish mountains, for example, the record high and low is 16C and –37C. Krakow is 17C and –30C.

Once you go east of Poland, or north, away from high ground, the record highs begin to come down too, so in the Ukraine, Kiev has record January highs and lows of 11C and –32C respectively, and north, away from the mountains, Warsaw has records of 13C and –31C.

Apparently, the maximum January temperature ever reached in Prague is 17°C (thank you @halny).

Much of Central Europe is a fair bit above sea level (my district of Prague is 330m asl) which certainly helps with lower temperatures and risk of snow.

Some very strong winds today in parts of the Czech Republic and Austria. Gusting 70mph at Vienna airport! Some wet snow around, too.

Hello!  We are visiting Prague for the weekend Friday 28/2/20 to Monday 2/3/20 and I was hoping for some advice.  This will be our first visit to and wondered what we temperatures we should pack for?  Every forecast we have checked says something different! I was hoping for snow but think I may be disappointed...  Will we need lots of layers/thermals or just what we would wear in the UK at this time of year? We live on the South Coast and so are used to around 10 degrees here in February...

Some beautiful sunny days here at the moment, but very chilly at night. Southern Bohemia has recorded -20°C near the border with Austria. Prague got down to -6°C.

A load of guys in full hazmat suits and face shields were spraying the outside children’s playground here today, also adjacent paths, the tennis and basketball courts, the bins and park benches. Was quite surreal!

An unpleasant few days here, some needed rainfall but often very blustery, little sunshine and feeling very chilly for late May. Just 12°C as the maximum temperature today, yuck

More unsettled weather here today. Heavy rain for a few hours early this morning, cleared to sunshine but showers soon bubbled up. Feeling chilly, yet again (just 12°C currently) in a brisk NW’ly breeze.

The cool and cloudy conditions continue here. Had a few periods of heavy rain and thunderstorms for much of the first week of June, but just cool and grey for the last few days with maximum temperatures a disappointing 17°C.

Some violent thunderstorms battered parts of the Czech Republic yesterday. Much of the country was under an Amber warning for severe and dangerous thunderstorms. Definitely had some of those here in Prague! It knocked out power on rail lines and caused flooding issues. Other parts of the country had fallen trees, large hail, power outages and a children’s summer camp had to be evacuated by firefighters due to lightning strikes.
Cooler today, was very misty this morning, the sun is trying to break through the clouds but not getting very far.

It has been quite wintry here for a good 3 weeks now. I’ve seen snow falling at least 20 times and it’s generally settled each time, but there were marginal conditions for much of the time. The last few days have gone properly into the freezer, and there’s 25cm of snow in Prague, with up to a metre in upland border regions in the north. It’s currently -10°C in Prague, with ice days expected for another week and warnings are out for extremely cold nights. May get as low as -17°C in Prague, lower elsewhere. Brrr
